Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The student attempts to describe the charts, covering various positive and negative aspects of living in London, as well as the trend questions. However, the overview is extremely weak and fails to present a clear, high-level summary of the main trends or differences shown in the data. Furthermore, the selection of data points is somewhat disorganised, and specific figures are largely omitted or generalised vaguely (e.g., 'hit a high', 'modestly change'). This corresponds to Band 5, as the response addresses the task only partially and lacks a fully developed overview.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response is divided into paragraphs, but the logical progression within and between paragraphs is heavily disrupted. Sentences like 'In best things, london has a several job chances additonally has numerous shops for purchasing' display poor coherence and awkward transitions. Cohesive devices are either misused or overused mechanically (e.g., 'Alternatively', 'In Contrast'). Paragraphing is attempted, but the internal structure of the body paragraphs lacks a clear flow of ideas, placing it firmly at Band 5.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is generally basic and repetitive (e.g., 'big problem', 'worst things', 'best things'). There are numerous spelling errors ('traffaic', 'shoping', 'vehicale', 'polution', 'continousely', 'avilable') and poor word choices ('good reflection, adverse evaluation', 'hit a high'). While the student attempts some less common terms like 'civilizations' and 'congestion', the high frequency of lexical inaccuracies and spelling mistakes causes strain for the reader, placing this response at Band 5.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but grammatical control is weak throughout the text. There are frequent errors in subject-verb agreement and article usage, such as 'transport issue was a huge problem', 'london has a several job chances', and 'air quality and noise declining continousely' (missing auxiliary verbs). Punctuation and capitalization are also erratic (e.g., 'london'). These frequent errors can cause difficulty for the reader, matching the Band 5 descriptors.
