Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
The response responds to the task only minimally and tangentially. While the student attempts to mention aspects of the provided charts—such as referencing shops, transport, and crime—the information is presented in a fragmented, highly confusing manner. There is no clear, structured overview of the main trends or data points shown in the three charts. Instead, the writing consists of isolated, repetitive statements that fail to accurately convey the comprehensive findings of the survey regarding what people think about living in London. To improve, the student must carefully study all visual prompts and provide a clear overview summarizing the key features, supported by accurate and relevant data from the charts rather than vague assertions.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
Information and ideas are not arranged coherently in this response. Although the text uses basic section headers like 'INTRO', 'OVERVIEW', and 'BODY PARAGRAPH 1', the actual progression of ideas is absent. The sentences jump abruptly between different charts without clear logical links or standard cohesive devices. Paragraphing is disjointed, and referencing is frequently unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the flow of information. To achieve a higher band, the student needs to group related data logically, use appropriate cohesive devices such as 'furthermore', 'in contrast', or 'overall', and ensure that each paragraph builds smoothly upon the previous one with a clear, unified focus.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.0
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, frequently relying on simple terms like 'highest', 'lowest', and 'range' without precise application. There are notable word-choice errors and awkward collocations throughout the text, such as 'worst range live in london' and 'air quelity is better to the litter problams'. Spelling errors also occur, such as 'surve' instead of survey and 'quelity' instead of quality, which further strain the reader's understanding. To enhance lexical resource, the student should expand their working vocabulary to include more sophisticated descriptive terms related to data reporting, such as 'proportion', 'peak', 'fluuctuate', and 'trend', while paying closer attention to correct word forms and spelling.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0
The response demonstrates a very limited range of grammatical structures, consisting primarily of simple sentences that often lack essential verbs or have broken syntax, such as 'The line graph and bar chart will be illustrates surve' and 'The highest range of the shops in city of london.' Errors in tense usage, subject-verb agreement, and missing articles are extremely frequent and often distort the intended meaning. Punctuation is also poorly handled, with run-on phrasing and missing periods. To improve in this area, the student must practice constructing complete, grammatically sound sentences with proper subjects and verbs, and work on mastering basic sentence patterns before attempting more complex structures.
