Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response addresses the task only partially. While the student attempts to describe the charts, the information presented contains noticeable inaccuracies and misinterpretations of the data, such as claiming that the percentage for the cost of living and crime is 68% or that litter peaked at 85%. The overview is vague and fails to adequately summarise the main trends across the multiple charts. Furthermore, key features are not clearly selected or compared, leading to a general lack of a well-developed, clear summary of the overall visual data.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
There is some organisation with basic paragraphing, but the response lacks a clear overall progression. Cohesive devices are used mechanically and sometimes inaccurately, as seen with phrases like 'Taking a general overview', 'Other remain things', and 'Moving towards the rest of the information'. Referencing between sentences is often unclear, and the mechanical transitions make the progression of ideas disjointed and difficult to follow smoothly.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and minimally adequate for the task. There are frequent word choice and word formation errors that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader, such as 'worse thing', 'remain same', 'Other remain things', and 'is worst thing'. Attempts to use less common vocabulary are inaccurate, and repetition of basic terms like 'percentage' and 'things' restricts the flexibility and precision needed for a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response displays a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on simple sentence forms. Attempts at complex or longer sentences are frequently faulty, such as in the opening sentence 'The bar chart illustrates how what are the best and worse thing related to living in London...'. There are frequent errors in verb forms, subject-verb agreement, plurals, and missing articles, which frequently cause difficulty and strain for the reader.
