Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

The response only partially addresses the task and fails to cover all the charts provided in the prompt, entirely missing the third line graph regarding whether issues are a major problem. While the writer attempts to describe the best and worst things about living in London, the information is presented in a mechanical, fragmented way. The overview is extremely brief and highlights minor or inaccurate details rather than the most significant global trends. Furthermore, data is frequently misreported or vague, such as stating 'Number of shops around 45% in first year, in second year 42% and 43% in third year' while omitting clear comparative analysis. To improve, the writer must ensure all visual elements are addressed, provide accurate data points, and formulate a clear, comprehensive overview that captures the main trends across the charts.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has some basic organisation, dividing the text into an introduction, body paragraphs, and a brief conclusion, but it lacks an overall clear progression. The relationships between ideas are often unclear due to abrupt shifts and mechanical cohesive devices like 'Moreover', 'Then', and 'Further'. Paragraphing is attempted, but the grouping of information lacks internal logic, jumping between categories without clear thematic development. Referencing is frequently faulty, making it difficult for the reader to follow which data points correspond to which categories. To achieve a higher band, the writer needs to group related information logically, use a wider and more accurate range of cohesive devices to show clear relationships between ideas, and ensure smooth transitions between sentences and paragraphs.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The lexical resource is limited and minimally adequate for the task. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'approximetaly' and 'marginally', but these attempts are marred by frequent spelling mistakes like 'begnning', 'apportunities', 'pettren', and 'noteble'. Word choice and collocations are often awkward or inaccurate, such as 'bad things are cost of the living' instead of 'the cost of living is a major drawback'. Repetition of basic terms like 'year', 'shops', and 'pettren' restricts the range of vocabulary. To improve, the writer should focus on expanding their vocabulary related to data trends, improving spelling accuracy, and learning standard collocations for describing charts, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', or 'experienced a significant decrease'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response demonstrates a very limited range of sentence structures, relying heavily on fragmented clauses and lists rather than complete, well-formed sentences. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including missing verbs, incorrect prepositions, and faulty article use, such as 'The both bar charts represent who think about London what things are best to live in there' and 'job apportunities slight less than shops'. Attempts at complex sentences are generally faulty and lack control. Punctuation is also inconsistent, which occasionally causes difficulty for the reader in parsing meaning. To improve, the writer must work on basic sentence construction, ensuring every sentence has a clear subject and finite verb, and reducing the frequency of basic grammatical errors by reviewing subject-verb agreement and word order.
