Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5
The response only partially addresses the task and falls slightly below the minimum word count requirement, sitting at 146 words instead of the required 150. While the student attempts to describe the charts, the information presented contains several significant inaccuracies regarding the data. For instance, the text claims that the range of shops, job opportunities, and mixture of people all declined from 45% to 38%, which misrepresents the actual trends shown in the charts. Additionally, the overview is overly simplistic, and key features of the graphs are not adequately or accurately covered, leading to a poorly developed and imprecise summary of the provided visual data.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
There is some basic organisation in the text, with an introductory paragraph, a brief overview, and separate body paragraphs addressing the best and worst aspects of living in London. However, there is a lack of clear overall progression and logical connection between sentences. Cohesive devices are used minimally or somewhat inaccurately, such as the abrupt transitions between paragraphs. Paragraphing is attempted, but the grouping of information lacks clarity and fails to guide the reader smoothly through the data trends.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task. The student attempts some topic-related vocabulary such as 'survey', 'job opportunities', and 'cost of living', but there are noticeable lexical errors and awkward word choices, such as 'the london city' and 'down side'. Spelling and word formation errors also appear, such as 'diffrent' and 'congestiona', which reflect a restricted range of vocabulary and cause some minor strain for the reader.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The text displays a very limited range of grammatical structures. Simple sentences dominate, and attempts at more complex or descriptive structures frequently result in errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues in 'what people likes' and 'all see s steady decline'. There are frequent errors in verb forms, prepositions, and articles throughout the response, which can cause occasional difficulty and confusion for the reader in interpreting the intended meaning.
