Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

The response attempts to address the task by describing parts of the provided visual data, but it only partially covers the information. While it mentions several 'best' and 'worst' aspects of living in London, such as the range of shops, job opportunities, and cost of living, it misses significant portions of the data, particularly the third chart regarding problem severity (litter, air quality, and noise) and fails to provide a clear overall overview. Furthermore, the selection of data lacks precision, with some trends described vaguely or inaccurately, such as stating that job opportunities 'becomes constant' or incorrectly referencing percentages. To improve, the writer should ensure all major trends and charts are included, provide a clear introductory overview of the main highlights, and support descriptions with more accurate data points from the visual.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response exhibits some basic organization by grouping information into paragraphs—an introduction, a body paragraph for the best things, and a body paragraph for the worst things. However, there is no clear overall progression or logical structure guiding the reader through the data. Cohesive devices are largely absent or repetitive, relying heavily on simple connectors like 'then it comes to' and 'according to' rather than a variety of linking words or accurate referencing pronouns. Paragraphing is also rudimentary, merging multiple distinct categories into single, run-on sentences without adequate punctuation or transition. To achieve a higher band, the writer must structure ideas logically with clear progression, use a wider range of cohesive devices smoothly, and organise distinct points into well-defined sentences and paragraphs.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and repetitive, which is just minimally adequate for the task. The student attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'traffic congestion' and 'job opportunities', but makes noticeable lexical and spelling errors that occasionally impede communication, such as 'coinsidered', 'ascepts', 'galliers', and 'reate'. Furthermore, there is poor word choice and collocation, exemplified by awkward phrasing like 'the most worst thing' and 'transport are the least worst things'. To progress, the writer needs to expand their lexical repertoire, use words with greater precision and correct spelling, and avoid double superlatives like 'most worst' in favor of standard forms like 'the worst factor'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writing demonstrates a very limited range of structures, relying mostly on simple sentences joined by coordinating conjunctions or commas, resulting in run-on structures. Attempts at complex sentences are rare and often faulty. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including missing capitalisation at the beginning of sentences and for proper nouns ('london'), incorrect verb tense consistency ('it is very high and in second and third year it becomes lesser'), and missing articles. These errors require some effort from the reader to untangle. To improve, the writer should focus on mastering basic sentence boundaries, punctuation, capitalization, and maintaining consistent verb tenses when describing past survey results.
