Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

The response attempts to address the visual data, but it only partially covers the complex charts provided in the prompt. While the student mentions some categories from the first bar chart and the line graph, details are limited and ideas remain under-developed. For example, the student selects a few points for 'Range of Shops' and 'Job Opportunities', but omits a clear, overarching overview of the main trends across the charts. Furthermore, parts of the data are misinterpreted or inaccurately described, such as stating that 'litter' stopped at 68 percent when the visual shows a drop to 65 percent. To move to a higher level, the response needs to select and fully compare all key features across the charts while providing a clear overall summary.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

There is some basic organisation, with the text divided into paragraphs that attempt to introduce, overview, and detail the charts. However, there is no clear overall progression, and the transitions between paragraphs feel mechanical. The student attempts to use cohesive devices such as 'While', 'Overall', and 'In addition', but these are sometimes used inaccurately or repetitively, such as the awkward opening sentence structure. Referencing is also occasionally unclear, making it difficult to follow the logical development of ideas. To achieve a higher band, the information must be organised with a clearer, more logical progression throughout, ensuring that cohesive devices link sentences and paragraphs smoothly without creating confusion.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task. The student attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'outcomes', 'significantly', and 'downgrade', but these are frequently accompanied by word choice and collocation errors, such as saying 'highly Job Opportunities' or 'beggining year'. There are also noticeable spelling and word-form errors throughout the text, including 'comming', 'Wheras', and 'stoped'. While communication is not entirely blocked, these persistent lexical inaccuracies restrict the score. To improve, the student should focus on using precise vocabulary relevant to data trends and ensure correct word forms and spelling.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response demonstrates a limited range of grammatical structures. While there are some attempts at complex sentences using subordinate clauses, these are frequently faulty and contain frequent errors in grammar, verb tenses, and agreement. Examples include 'The bar graph and the line graph illustrates', 'what individual who live in the London opin of the town', and mixing past and present tenses when describing the survey data ('its value was at 45 percent and ... it is noted at 43 percent'). Punctuation and article usage also show frequent inaccuracies that can cause some difficulty for the reader. To progress, the student needs to develop better control over basic sentence patterns, subject-verb agreement, and consistent tense usage.
