Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

The response attempts to describe the provided charts, but it only partially addresses the task. While some main features are mentioned, such as the highest advantages like the range of shops and disadvantages like crime and cost of living, the selection of data is erratic and lacks a cohesive overview. Key trends across the three-year period are overlooked, and some details are inaccurately reported or described with vague generalisations, such as stating that maximum crime occurred in the first year without fully capturing the comparative data across all three charts. The response addresses the prompt minimally, resulting in an under-developed summary of the visual data.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is some basic organisation into paragraphs corresponding to the different charts, but the response lacks a clear overall progression. Cohesive devices are used mechanically and repetitively, with sentences frequently opening with 'From the first column graph' or 'However'. Paragraphing is attempted, but referencing between sentences is often unclear, meaning the relationships between data points do not flow logically. The abrupt final sentence fails to adequately synthesise the information or provide a coherent concluding overview.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and barely adequate for the task. The writer relies heavily on basic terms and repeats words from the prompt and student text, such as 'advantages', 'disadvantages', and 'year'. There are noticeable lexical errors, including spelling mistakes like 'flactuating' and 'trafiic', as well as awkward word choices and collocations like 'maximum amount of crime' and 'tranport system ranked the worst things'. These errors occasionally cause some difficulty for the reader in grasping the exact meaning intended.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response displays a very limited range of sentence structures, with most complex sentence attempts resulting in faulty phrasing and frequent grammatical errors. There are persistent issues with subject-verb agreement, missing articles, and awkward prepositions, such as 'it is regarding of the advantages living' and 'transport system ranked the worst things about living in london'. Frequent errors in basic sentence construction and punctuation disrupt the flow and require the reader to decode the meaning, though communication is not entirely obscured.
