Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response attempts to address the prompt by describing elements from the charts and graph, but the coverage is partial and lacks a clear overview. Key trends are mentioned, such as changes in the best and worst aspects of living in London, but the information is restricted to isolated details rather than a well-synthesised report. For instance, the student states that "transport is same" and notes percentage changes like "upto 5%," yet many figures are misreported or vaguely expressed. Ideas are presented without sufficient development, and the overall structure lacks the standard features of an academic report, such as a summary of main trends or a concluding overview paragraph.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The response shows some organisation through basic transitional markers such as "Firstly," "Secondely," and "To conclude," but there is no clear overall progression. The writing is fragmented into a series of short, disjointed sentences rather than cohesive paragraphs, making the flow difficult to follow. Referencing is often unclear, with repetitive reliance on phrases like "I can see frome the figure" to introduce nearly every sentence. Paragraphing is not used effectively to group related data, such as separating the positive aspects from the negative aspects and the line graph trends, which contributes to a lack of logical structure throughout the text.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and barely adequate for the task. The student relies heavily on basic terminology directly lifted from the prompt, such as "living in London," "range of shopes," and "night life." There are noticeable spelling and word choice errors throughout the response, including "abd" for and, "shopes" for shops, "approximitaly" for approximately, "percantage" for percentage, "meseums" for museums, "trafic" for traffic, and "quility" for quality. These lexical inaccuracies and non-standard word forms occasionally cause difficulty for the reader and prevent the response from achieving a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response demonstrates a very limited range of grammatical structures, consisting mostly of simple sentences alongside flawed attempts at complex clauses. There are frequent errors in basic grammar, subject-verb agreement, and articles. Examples include "The bar chart abd line graph gives" (plural subject with singular verb), "the best things living in London is range of shopes" (missing articles and agreement error), "night life is slightly increases" (incorrect verb tense/form), and "cost of living and trafic congestion is decreased" (plural compound subject with singular verb). Punctuation and sentence boundaries are also weak, with several sentence fragments used as questions or standalone statements, causing frequent strain for the reader.
