Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5
The response identifies the broad subject of the charts and mentions several relevant positive features, including shopping, job opportunities, museums, nightlife and transport. However, it does not provide a clear overview of the main patterns or report meaningful comparisons across the three years. The claim that transport, nightlife and “others” each account for less than 20% is inaccurate: nightlife and transport are generally around 20–25%, and the chart’s lowest category is not identified. Most importantly, the response stops before describing the worst aspects or the line graph on litter, air quality and noise. It is also below the required 150 words. To address the task more fully, summarise the main trends and include selected accurate figures from all three visuals.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
There is a basic attempt to introduce the visuals and then move to the positive features, using signposts such as “Moreover” and “At the first glance.” This gives the response a starting point, but the ideas do not develop into a clear report: the second paragraph becomes difficult to follow and ends abruptly with “while people cons”. The charts are not organised into distinct sections, and there is no concluding overview to connect the information. Some linking is also awkward, as in “One of the bar graph represents…” followed by a loosely connected description of the line graph. Use a clear sequence—introduction, overview, then grouped details—and complete each comparison before moving on.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The response attempts some topic-relevant vocabulary, including “job opportunities,” “multiculturalism,” “percentage,” and “survey,” so the reader can recognise the general subject. However, the range is limited and several spelling and word-choice errors make parts harder to understand: “problamatic,” “opprtunities,” and “shoping” are noticeable, while “worst condition for basic atmosphere” is not a clear description of the line graph. “People responded least for the transport” is also an unnatural phrase. Aim for precise chart-reporting language and check spelling carefully. Useful alternatives include “positive aspects,” “respondents,” and “the proportion who considered each issue a problem.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response attempts longer sentence forms, but control is inconsistent, and several errors affect clarity. For example, “One of the bar graph represents” has incorrect number agreement, while “These shows the results” also mismatches subject and verb. The sentence beginning “At the first glance” contains a long, poorly controlled list, with unclear relationships between the features and the percentage information. Articles and prepositions are also unreliable in phrases such as “in the London city” and “responded least for the transport.” The final fragment, “while people cons,” is incomplete. Build shorter, complete sentences first, checking subject–verb agreement, articles and sentence endings, then add more complex structures.
