Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
The response recognises the three-year survey and mentions positive features, negative features, and the line graph, so it makes a basic attempt to cover the visuals. However, the account is very limited and several details are inaccurate or unclear. For example, it says the survey concerns people in the “UK,” although the task is specifically about London, and the figures “45%, 40%, 30%, 35%” are not clearly linked to categories or years. The negative features are reduced to a vague claim about falling levels, while the line graph is described as remaining at the “same position,” despite litter, air quality, and noise changing over time. Give a clear overview and select accurate comparisons with labelled figures.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is some basic organisation: the response moves from an introduction to positive features, negative features, and then the line graph. This gives the reader a rough sense of the chart sections. However, progression within paragraphs is weak, and the ideas are often difficult to follow because comparisons and figures are not clearly connected. Phrases such as “these were consumed at maximum level and minimise level” do not explain what changed, while “the same places available” has an unclear reference. Linking words such as “Overall” and “In the worse things” are attempted, but they do not create a reliable sequence. Use one paragraph for the overview and organise the details by chart, naming each category before comparing years.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The response uses some task-related vocabulary, including “range of shops,” “job opportunities,” “mixture of people,” “air quality,” and “noise.” This shows a basic ability to refer to chart categories. However, the range is limited, and several word choices or collocations make the meaning unclear: “consequence of a survey,” “consumed at maximum level,” and “minimise lower” are not natural ways to describe survey results. There are also spelling and form errors, including “nights life” and “worse things.” Build a small set of accurate reporting expressions, such as “was the most popular,” “declined,” “remained relatively stable,” and “accounted for,” and use them with the chart labels.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response attempts several sentence forms, including an introductory clause and sentences beginning “Overall” and “In the worse things.” However, control is weak: errors are frequent and sometimes make relationships between ideas hard to understand. For example, “The bar charts and line graph illustrates” has subject–verb disagreement, and “the information about both thing best and worse things” has problems with number and sentence construction. The sentence “The line chart number of qualities such as litter…” is incomplete, while “these were started from” uses an incorrect passive construction. Aim first for clear, complete sentences with a subject and verb, then add accurate comparisons using simple past forms such as “rose,” “fell,” and “was.”
