Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the survey’s subject and give an overview, noting that positive views were broadly stable and that litter was a major problem. You also report several leading positive features and name cost of living, congestion and crime as key drawbacks. However, the report addresses the charts only partially: the final paragraph is unfinished, and there is no account of the worst-feature figures or the year-by-year line-graph trends for litter, air quality and noise. The claim that crime concerns decreased substantially is also too broad: the figure fell sharply from Year 1 to Year 2, then rose slightly. The response is two words below the required minimum. To improve, complete the comparisons and support the overview with accurate trends and selected figures.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview and paragraphs beginning with positive and negative aspects. Linking phrases such as “Overall” and “On the other hand” help signal the direction of the report, and the ideas are generally understandable in sequence. However, the final paragraph stops after introducing the main concerns, so the report lacks a complete progression through the information. The overview also combines several points without clearly separating the stable positive ratings from the changing negative ratings. Develop a separate paragraph for the worst features and another for the line graph, using clear comparisons across the three years. This would make the organisation more complete and the connections between data points easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant task vocabulary, including “survey,” “job opportunities,” “mixture of people,” and “major problem,” so the topic is usually clear. However, the range is limited and several noticeable spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision: “wrost,” “tought,” “concers,” “varity,” “meseums,” and “galaries.” Some phrases are also awkward, such as “best things” when referring to a category of responses and “citizens though about crimes.” Use accurate chart-reporting language and check spelling carefully. For example, “respondents identified” is more precise than “people indentify,” while “concerns about crime” is more natural than “thought about crimes.” These improvements would make the report clearer and more appropriate in style.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including the opening contrast between the bar charts and line graph and the overview beginning “Overall.” However, grammatical errors occur frequently and sometimes make the relationships between ideas unclear. For example, “The bar charts illustrates” has subject–verb disagreement, while “over 3 year period” needs an article and plural form. “Around 45% people” is missing “of,” and “These decision remains” has errors in number and agreement. The final sentence is also incomplete. Practise accurate plural subjects, articles, verb agreement and complete sentence construction. A careful edit for these patterns would improve control while allowing you to retain the range of sentence structures you are attempting.
