Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
The response identifies some relevant positive features, especially shopping and job opportunities, and attempts to describe changes across the three years. However, it only minimally covers the task: it gives no clear overview of the main patterns and largely omits the chart about the worst aspects and the line graph on whether issues are major problems. Several details are inaccurate or unclear. For example, crime is not consistently the worst concern, and the figures for litter, air quality and noise are confused in the closing sentences. The personal statement, “The best thing for me,” is not appropriate for an objective report. To improve, summarise the strongest overall trends and compare key figures from all three visuals accurately.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
There is some attempt to group information by topic, and sequencing phrases such as “in the first year,” “the second year” and “then” help signal movement through the data. However, the response is not arranged into clear report sections, and ideas often run together in a long paragraph. Repeated transitions such as “then we talk about” make the progression mechanical, while references such as “these things” and “the things in upper paragraph” are not always clear. The discussion also jumps from positive features to personal opinion and then to selected negative figures without a logical structure. Use separate paragraphs for an overview, positive features, and negative features/problems, and connect comparisons directly rather than narrating each chart item in turn.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The response uses a basic set of topic words, including “job opportunities,” “mixture of people,” “museums and art galleries,” and “crime,” so the reader can identify some intended categories. However, vocabulary is repetitive and often inaccurate, which strains understanding. Phrases such as “range of shopping,” “population will increase” for the mixture of people, and “air population” do not express the chart labels precisely. There are also frequent spelling errors, including “beatiful,” “opportunties,” “benifecient,” and “lodon.” Build a reliable vocabulary set for describing survey categories and trends, and check spelling. Prefer exact labels such as “range of shops” and “air quality,” with verbs such as “rose,” “fell” and “remained stable.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response attempts some longer sentences and time clauses, for example, “when third year come,” but grammatical control is weak and errors frequently make relationships between ideas difficult to follow. Problems include verb forms and agreement (“Every one wants to went,” “the job opportunties … high”), missing or incorrect articles (“in first year”), and unclear tense changes (“the first year population will increase”). Sentence boundaries and punctuation are also unreliable, with many ideas joined by full stops or commas without clear structure. Practise accurate simple comparisons first, such as “The figure fell in Year 2, then rose slightly in Year 3,” before adding subordinate clauses. Consistent past-tense reporting and complete sentences would make the information easier to understand.
