Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You identify some relevant features, including the range of shops as the leading positive feature in Year 1 and the high figures for cost of living, traffic congestion and crime. You also note that the cost-of-living figure falls and then rises slightly. However, the report covers only part of the visual: it omits the line graph on litter, air quality and noise, as well as several important categories such as housing and transport among the worst aspects. Some comparisons are unclear or inaccurate; for example, the cost of living falls from about 57% to 48.5%, then rises to 50%, rather than decreasing by around 10%. A clear overview of the main patterns across all three charts, supported by accurate comparisons, would make the response more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is some basic organisation: the first paragraph discusses positive features and the second turns to difficulties, so the reader can recognise the broad topic of each section. You also use simple links such as “and” and “the second thing.” However, ideas within the paragraphs are often crowded together, and the progression is difficult to follow. The repeated discussion of the range of shops, followed by a long list of other categories, does not clearly distinguish the main comparisons. The second paragraph ends without covering the remaining chart information. Use a clear overview followed by focused paragraphs, grouping related data and using precise references such as “this figure” or “by Year 3” to connect comparisons.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

You use some task-related vocabulary, including “range of shops,” “job opportunities,” “mixture of people” and “traffic congestion,” which helps identify the chart categories. However, the vocabulary is basic and repetitive, and frequent spelling and word-choice errors strain the reader: examples include “bar chats,” “difficulties,” “underrated” and “more bad thing.” Several phrases are also unnatural, such as “the tiny of range of shop” and “the more then previous year.” Aim for accurate, concise language for describing data, including terms such as “percentage,” “proportion,” “highest,” “declined” and “remained broadly stable.” Check spelling carefully and avoid repeating “thing” when naming a specific category.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response attempts to connect ideas in longer sentences, but sentence structures are very limited and errors are frequent enough to make some relationships unclear. For example, “the range of shops is the most around 45% the comparive to others things” lacks a clear grammatical structure, while “the most thing which is more difficult people is cost of living” has problems with clause formation and agreement. Verb forms and sentence boundaries are also inconsistent, as in “the 1 year its around 60% hign and 2 and 3 year its decrease.” Practise writing short, complete sentences first, with a clear subject and verb, then add comparisons using accurate forms such as “fell from … to …” and “was higher than …”.
