Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify the survey’s broad subject and give a basic overview, noting that the range of shops was a popular positive feature and the cost of living a major negative one. However, the report addresses the charts only partially: it gives one specific category’s figures and does not describe the other positive or negative features, or the line graph’s trends for litter, air quality and noise. The statement that more than 50% considered city problems serious is too general to show which problems or how responses changed. The response is also seven words below the required minimum. To improve, cover all three visuals, select key comparisons across the years, and support the overview with accurate figures.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, a short overview and a paragraph beginning to describe the positive features. This gives the reader some sense of organisation, and phrases such as “Overall” and “while” help connect ideas. However, there is little progression beyond the range-of-shops example, and the final paragraph ends without completing a broader comparison or covering the remaining charts. Some links are unclear, as in “The ratio of percentage of people were less for all good thing of cities.” Use separate body paragraphs to group positive features, negative features and major problems, and connect each with clear comparisons across the three years.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “range of shops,” “cost of living,” “percentage” and “major,” so the subject is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several phrases are awkward or imprecise, such as “positive thinking of people,” “the ratio of percentage” and “good thing of cities.” These choices make some comparisons difficult to interpret. There are also spelling and form errors, including “landon” and “seriuos.” Aim for concise chart-report language and accurate category names, for example “respondents,” “proportion,” “positive aspects” and “serious problems.” Check spelling carefully, especially for words used to describe the main trends.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more developed sentences, including a contrast with “while” and an overview introduced by “Overall.” However, grammatical errors occur frequently and sometimes make the intended meaning unclear. For example, “the percentage of positive thinking of people … are lower” has problems with noun phrasing and subject–verb agreement, while “The ratio of percentage of people were less” is not a well-formed comparison. In “the problem of city are,” the singular/plural forms do not agree. Practise building accurate sentences around a clear subject and verb, such as “The proportion choosing shops was lower in Year 2 than in Year 1.” Also check articles, plurals and tense consistency.
