Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5

The response refers to several relevant themes in the charts, including shopping, jobs, transport, housing costs, traffic, crime, museums and air quality. However, it does not report the survey results in a systematic way: there is no clear overview of the main patterns, and almost none of the chart percentages or year-to-year comparisons are included. Some claims also conflict with the data: crime is presented as “very low,” although it was among the most frequently named worst aspects in Year 1, and the air is described as “very pure and fresh,” while 60–66% said air quality was a major problem. Much of the response gives personal-sounding claims rather than describing the charts. Select key comparisons and report them accurately to address the task more fully.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5

A few ideas are connected through simple sequencing phrases such as “the worst part,” “the best part,” and “About the cost of living,” so the reader can identify some topic changes. However, the response is essentially one long, unstructured paragraph, with no clear introduction, overview, or organised grouping of the positive and negative findings. Ideas often run together—for example, transport, nightlife, rent, crime, and traffic appear in quick succession—and links between them are unclear. The repeated use of “about” does not establish logical relationships, while punctuation is too limited to guide the reader. Use separate paragraphs for an overview and the main chart groups, then connect comparisons with clear references to the years and categories.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The response attempts vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “job opportunities,” “crime rate,” “traffic,” “rent,” and “art and museum.” These choices show some ability to discuss city life, but the range is uneven and several expressions are inaccurate or informal for an academic report. Examples include “very beutiful,” “shine,” “punchual,” “barnd,” and “freshly comer”; spelling errors and unclear word choices sometimes make the intended meaning difficult to follow. Phrases such as “you will enjoy alot” and “feel like at heaven” are conversational and do not describe survey data. Build a more precise chart-report vocabulary, such as “respondents,” “percentage,” “was considered,” and “rose/fell,” and check spelling and collocations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

There are attempts to combine ideas using clauses and conditionals, as in “if you have car then the night life you will enjoy,” and the reader can sometimes infer the intended message. However, sentence structures are often incomplete or joined without appropriate punctuation, and control of basic forms is inconsistent. For example, “there people are very nice” lacks a clear grammatical relationship, “the wrost part is there transport are very expensive” has agreement problems, and “the air the very pure” is missing a verb. Articles, plurals, and verb forms also need attention, as in “have car” and “people very attracted.” Use shorter, complete sentences first, then practise accurate comparisons and past-tense reporting structures.
