Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
The response identifies some relevant features, including the range of shops as a leading positive and cost of housing as a relatively low-ranked negative. However, it addresses the charts only partially: the overview is unclear (“the best thing … is to be contained in 3 years”), and the report stops midway through the worst-things data. Several figures are inaccurate or imprecise: job opportunities are given as 39% and then 37%, rather than about 38%, 35% and 35%; the chart also shows the mixture of people and the museums/art galleries changing over the period. The line graph on litter, air quality and noise is not described at all. To improve, give a clear overview of the main trends and compare representative figures from all three visuals.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
There is a basic attempt to organise the report with an introduction, an overview and detail paragraphs, and transitions such as “Overall,” “Looking at the details” and “In addition.” These help the reader recognise the intended sections. However, progression is weakened by unclear or incomplete statements, especially “the best thing … is to be contained in 3 years,” and the final paragraph ends after introducing the first-year figures. Some comparisons are crowded into long sentences, with repeated “and” and “whereas,” so relationships between categories are difficult to follow. Use one paragraph for the overview and separate, logically ordered paragraphs for the positive and negative findings, including the line graph; make each comparison complete.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The response uses a small set of relevant chart-reporting terms, including “percentage,” “highest,” “lowest,” “approx” and “survey,” so the topic is generally recognisable. However, vocabulary is limited and repetitive, and several phrases are unnatural or imprecise, such as “the highest best thing,” “the lowest percentage in the worst things” and “the second and the third one.” “I will explain the university lecturer describing the information” also does not express the reporting purpose clearly. Choose precise category names and comparison language, and avoid repeating “percentage” when a direct figure or trend verb would be clearer. More accurate collocations would make the report easier to understand.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts both simple statements and longer sentences with connectors, for example the sentence beginning “The job opportunities and the mixture of people…” However, control is inconsistent: the opening has subject–verb disagreement (“charts and line graph illustrates”), and “the percentage of job opportunities is 39%and the second and the third one is 37%” has faulty sentence structure and agreement. The overview also contains an incomplete or unclear construction (“is to be contained in 3 years”), while punctuation and spacing are unreliable. These errors sometimes make the intended comparisons hard to follow. Practise forming complete comparison sentences with a clear subject and verb, and check agreement, articles, commas and sentence boundaries.
