Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

The response identifies the broad topic and mentions several relevant categories, including shops, job opportunities, museums, cost of living and crime. It also notes that shops lead among the positive features and that crime is highest in Year 1. However, the report only partially describes the charts: it gives almost no accurate figures, omits the separate results for litter, air quality and noise, and does not compare the main changes across all three years. The claim that cost of living and crime were both higher in Year 1 is not a sound summary of the data, since traffic congestion was also high and cost of living fell in Year 2. Avoid adding unsupported explanations about residents being unable to pay for accommodation; focus instead on precise chart comparisons.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

There is a basic paragraph structure, moving from an introduction and overview to positive features and then negative ones. This gives the reader some sense of the report’s organisation. However, progression is limited: the overview repeats lists from the introduction, and the body paragraphs do not consistently group or compare information in a clear sequence. Connectors such as “However,” “Whereas,” and “In contrast” are sometimes used inaccurately or without a clear relationship between the ideas. For example, “Whereas the cost of living and crime…” does not complete a clear contrast. Organise the report around the three visuals or around positive features, negative features, and problems, and use linking phrases only where they express the intended relationship.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The response uses some relevant topic vocabulary, including “range of shops,” “job opportunities,” “crime rate,” and “percentage,” so the reader can generally recognise the subject being discussed. However, the range is limited and several phrases are repetitive or imprecise, such as “higher in the percentage as compared to others” and “the cost for transport are somehow cheapest.” Some word choices also make the meaning awkward, including “accommodation payment” and “balance” for crime figures that remained similar. Spelling errors such as “opporunities” further reduce accuracy. Aim for concise chart language and accurate collocations, for example, “accounted for,” “remained stable,” and “was the least frequently cited disadvantage.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response attempts some longer structures, including clauses introduced by “while” and “whereas,” and the main ideas are usually recoverable. However, control is uneven, and errors occur in both simple and more complex sentences. Examples include “several best things are saw,” “the range of shops are highest,” and “Crime rate … was higher,” where verb forms, agreement, or articles are not controlled. Sentence boundaries and punctuation are also problematic, as in “balance. The cost,” while some clauses beginning with “While” or “Whereas” are left incomplete or loosely attached. Practise building clear subject–verb sentences first, then add subordinate clauses with correct agreement and punctuation; this will make comparisons easier to follow.
