In many countries these days, the number of people continuing their education after school has increased, and the range of courses available at universities and colleges has also increased.
Do you think this is a positive or negative development?
You should use your own ideas, knowledge and experience and support your arguments with examples and relevant experience.
Student answer (Band 5.0)
It is believed that education gives opportunities. Educated people can transform society in a better way. I strongly agree with getting education. It allows us to participate in the betterment of our country.
People are continuing their education after school. Their ratio has increased. They consider education in a good way. Universities and colleges have increased number of courses for people. They have increased the opportunities for them.
I believe in better prospects of education. When people study, they get busy. They don't have time to think negative. They get busy in future planning.Teachers help them in their studies. They make new friends. They think positive. They have more knowledge. They pursue their interests. They think of achieving good grades. They get more opportunities. They face healthy competition. They compete with their friends. They are involved in a healthy environment. This is a positive side of education.
Colleges and universities have increased their courses. They provide educational environment to their students. They allow them to study and work hard. They allow them to take part in competition. They think of profit as well. They provide courses and they compete with other institutes. They want to get recognized. They allow their students to keep in touch after school. They provide updated material in the form of books and new courses. In this way, they keep themselves in a loop of healthy competition.
To summarize, education is your best companion. It gives you knowledge. It gives you confidence. It gives you talent. It give you social life. It give you better opportunities. It give you a path to succeed.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
Your position is positive and is stated clearly in “I strongly agree with getting education,” and you give relevant points about knowledge, opportunities, social interaction, and competition. However, the response only partially addresses the specific development in the prompt: the rise in further education and the wider range of courses. Most of the discussion lists general benefits of studying, while the effects of having more courses are only briefly mentioned, such as providing updated material. Several claims, including that students “don’t have time to think negative,” are asserted rather than explained or supported with an example. Develop a few central arguments in more depth and connect them directly to the changes described in the question.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a basic paragraph structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. The reader can generally follow the positive viewpoint, and phrases such as “In this way” help signal a connection. However, there is no strong progression from one main argument to the next. The second paragraph presents many short points in a list-like sequence, repeatedly beginning with “They,” while the third shifts between student benefits and universities’ competition without clearly linking these ideas. The conclusion repeats a series of benefits rather than drawing the discussion together. Organise each body paragraph around one main point, explain it, and use clearer links between the prompt’s two developments and their effects.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use enough basic vocabulary to communicate a generally positive view, including relevant terms such as “opportunities,” “competition,” “courses,” and “updated material.” However, the range is limited and several words or phrases are repeated, particularly “They,” “allow,” “think,” and “get.” Some expressions are vague or unnatural in context, such as “keep themselves in a loop of healthy competition” and “think negative,” which make parts of the argument less precise. Aim for more specific vocabulary about further study and course choice, and vary how you describe benefits and outcomes. More accurate collocations would help your ideas sound clearer and more natural without requiring unnecessarily complex words.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
Most sentences use simple subject–verb patterns, and these generally communicate straightforward ideas. There are attempts to connect clauses, for example, “When people study, they get busy,” but the response shows little variety in sentence structure and relies heavily on short, repetitive statements. Errors occur in basic forms: “It give you” should be “It gives you,” and “They have increased number of courses” needs an article or possessive, such as “the number of courses.” There are also punctuation and spacing problems, as in “future planning.Teachers” and “companion.It.” Work on accurate subject–verb agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries, then practise combining related ideas into controlled complex sentences.
