Student answer (Band 6.0)
In many countries these days, the number of people continuing their education after school has increased. And courses available at universities is also increased. I think this is a very positive development for everyone.First, go to university is good. People can get a good job because they learn many things. For example, my brother go to college and now he works in a big office and gets money. If you don't study after school, you cannot find a good job. Also, universities have many courses now. Students can choose what they like, like business or computers. This is very good for young people.Second, some people think this is negative. Because university is very expensive. Many people don't have money to pay for college. They must work and study at the same time, so they are very tired. Also, if too many people go to university, it is difficult to find a job after finishing. There are too many students but not many jobs.In conclusion, I think more education is positive development. It helps people to get jobs and learn new skills, even if it is expensive.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt by discussing the positive and negative aspects of increased university attendance. However, the essay is significantly under the 250-word minimum, which limits the depth of the arguments. While the position is clear, the ideas are underdeveloped; for instance, the point about the cost of education is mentioned but not fully explored in relation to the broader societal impact. To improve, you must expand your supporting points with more detailed explanations and examples to meet the length requirement and provide a more comprehensive analysis of the topic.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of ideas. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'First', 'Second', and 'In conclusion' to signal the structure. However, the transitions between sentences are often mechanical, and the flow within paragraphs is somewhat choppy. To achieve a higher band, try to use a wider variety of linking words and phrases (e.g., 'furthermore', 'consequently', 'on the other hand') and ensure that your sentences are connected more fluidly to create a more cohesive argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but remains quite basic and repetitive. Phrases like 'good job', 'very good', and 'very tired' are used frequently. While the meaning is clear, there is a lack of precision and variety. To improve, you should aim to incorporate more academic vocabulary and collocations related to education and the labor market. For example, instead of saying 'get a good job', you could use 'secure professional employment' or 'enhance career prospects'. Expanding your range of synonyms will help you express your ideas with more sophistication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay relies heavily on simple sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('go to university is good', 'my brother go to college') and missing articles. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent. To improve, you should practice using more complex sentence structures, such as relative clauses or conditional sentences (e.g., 'If more people pursue higher education, the competition for entry-level positions may intensify'). Focusing on accurate verb tense usage and sentence variety will significantly improve your score.
