Student answer (Band 7.0)

The number of individuals continuing their study after educational institution has rose, and the variety of courses available at universities and colleges has also grown. In my opinion, it is completely a positive development because of better career opportunities and benefits to society and economy.

The primary positive development is people can have better career opportunity. It means that students can choose courses according to their interests and abilities. In this way they put more effort to learn their interested courses. It will help them to build a strong foundation for their career goal. Specialized courses help them to gain practical and job ready skills and reduces unemployment by increasing skills. For instance, courses of AI, business analytics, digital marketing are in high demand in today's world.

Furthermore, It provides several benefits to society and economy. it means that a highly educated population help to contribute in innovations and productivity. Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, clearly stating that the trend is a positive development. The ideas are relevant, focusing on career opportunities and societal/economic benefits. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat repetitive and relies on generalisations. For instance, the mention of 'AI, business analytics, digital marketing' is a good specific example, but the explanation of how these contribute to the economy remains at a surface level. To reach a higher band, you should expand on the 'how' and 'why' with more nuanced analysis rather than listing benefits.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5

The essay is logically organised into clear paragraphs with a consistent progression of ideas. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Furthermore', 'In addition', and 'In conclusion', though some transitions feel slightly mechanical. The use of referencing is generally clear, although the sentence 'It means that students can choose...' is a bit vague in its connection to the previous point. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the introduction, two body paragraphs, and the conclusion, which helps the reader follow the argument easily.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing for clear communication of ideas. You use some topic-specific terms like 'entrepreneurship', 'social welfare', and 'productivity'. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'educational institution has rose' (should be 'risen') and 'interested courses' (should be 'courses they are interested in'). The range is sufficient, but more sophisticated or idiomatic expressions would be needed to move into the higher bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with verb forms and subject-verb agreement, such as 'has rose' instead of 'has risen', 'diverse courses helps' instead of 'help', and 'it provide' instead of 'it provides'. Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some issues with capitalisation after commas and within sentences. These errors do not impede communication, but they are frequent enough to limit the score.
