In many countries these days, the number of people continuing their education after school has increased, and the range of courses available at universities and colleges has also increased.

You should use your own ideas, knowledge and experience and support your arguments with examples and relevant experience.

Student answer (Band 8.0)

It is undeniable that education has enriched the planet beyond the belief.

In this regard, it is widely acknowledged that in recent years, more people have chosen to pursue higher education after finishing school, and universities now offer a wider variety of courses than ever before. I opine that it is an optimistic approach, however there are also few detrimental effects, both will be outline in the forthcoming fragments with a relevant conclusion.

To commence with, there are numerous advantages of this trend. One major advantage is that increased access to higher education allows people to develop specialized knowledge and skills. To elaborate, in the past, many students had limited options and often had to choose from a small number of traditional subjects. Nowadays, institutions offer courses in fields such as data science, digital marketing, environmental studies, and artificial intelligence. As a result, students can select programs that match their interests and career goals, which often leads to higher motivation and better academic performance. Another benefit is that a wider range of courses helps create a workforce that is better prepared for modern challenges. To exemplify, many industries required employees with advanced and specialized skills. Thus, by providing diverse educational opportunities, universities can produce graduates who are capable of contributing to innovation and economic growth. For example, the rapid growth of the technology sector has created a demand for professionals with expertise in software development and cybersecurity. Educational institutions have responded by introducing relevant programs to meet these needs.

Nevertheless, there is a negative side too. The prime one is that when a massive percentage of the population holds a university degree, the degree itself loses its value as a competitive advantage. To explain, academic over-saturation forces employers to raise the entry-level requirements for jobs that previously did not require higher education, creating a phenomenon known as "credential inflation". to illustrate, graduates with niche degrees facing underemployment in retail jobs, while essential vocational trades experience severe labor shortages.

In conclusion, although there are several merits of this statement such as development of specialized skills, contributing in economic growth, yet few demerits can never be neglected at any cost.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 8.0

You have addressed all parts of the prompt, providing a clear position that acknowledges both the benefits and drawbacks of the trend. Your ideas are well-developed, particularly the discussion on 'credential inflation' and the shift toward specialized skills. To reach a higher band, ensure that your conclusion does more than just summarize; it should ideally synthesize your arguments more effectively. The introduction is slightly informal with phrases like 'enriched the planet beyond the belief', but the overall task response is strong, balanced, and relevant throughout.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 8.0

The essay is logically organized with clear paragraphing. You use a variety of cohesive devices such as 'To commence with', 'To elaborate', and 'Nevertheless' to guide the reader through your arguments. The progression of ideas is smooth, moving from the benefits of specialization to the societal impact of credential inflation. Occasionally, the transition between sentences could be more sophisticated, but the overall structure is coherent and easy to follow. The use of referencing is generally accurate, contributing to a clear flow of information.

Lexical Resource — Band 7.5

You demonstrate a good range of vocabulary, including topic-specific terms like 'credential inflation', 'niche degrees', and 'vocational trades'. There is an attempt to use less common lexical items, which is positive. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in collocation and word choice, such as 'enriched the planet beyond the belief' (which sounds unnatural) and 'optimistic approach' (where 'positive development' would be more precise). Despite these minor slips, your vocabulary is sufficient to convey your ideas with precision and flexibility.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures effectively. Most of your sentences are error-free, and your control over grammar is generally strong. There are a few minor errors, such as 'both will be outline' (should be 'outlined') and 'graduates with niche degrees facing underemployment' (a sentence fragment). Punctuation is generally accurate, though there are occasional slips. The majority of your writing is clear and grammatically sound, which supports your overall argument well.
