Student answer (Band 7.0)

Nowadays there is a significant increase continuing education after school, also the range of courses has increased in universities and colleges. In my opinion, this is an overwhelmingly positive development because it benefits both career growth and the broader modern economy. There are also some negative effect as well.

One of the most notable impact of this development is that better career opportunities. Higher education equips students with better knowledge and practical skills, as a result they can archive better employment prospects and higher salaries. In addition there will be winder choice of courses. Students can enroll them in different courses as their choices. Students can study fields such as artificial intelligence, computer science, electrical engineering and digital marketing. There will be economical growth also. A well educated workforce increases productivity and innovation. This will benefits both society, businesses and the national economy.

One major drawback of this trend is growing rate of graduate unemployment More graduates are compete for the same job and many of them cannot find related job for their degree. For example, many graduates are forced to accept low skilled jobs because there are not enough professional positions available. Furthermore, there are also problems of skill mismatch with courses. Many courses may not meet the current labour market needs, as a result after graduation students suffer with unemployment and depression.

In conclusion, this trend brings both positive and negative consequences. While it improves access to higher education and expand career opportunities , it also creates challenges such as increased competition for jobs and higher educational jobs.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, providing a clear position that the trend is positive while acknowledging drawbacks. The ideas are relevant and generally well-developed, such as the mention of career growth and the economic benefits of a skilled workforce. However, the development of the 'negative' side is slightly more superficial, and the conclusion introduces a slightly confusing phrase ('higher educational jobs') that does not clearly link back to the previous arguments. To reach a higher band, ensure that all points are fully extended with specific examples or logical consequences throughout the entire essay.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'In addition', 'Furthermore', and 'In conclusion', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are a bit mechanical, and there are instances where the flow could be smoother. For example, the transition between the benefits of AI/computer science and the broader economic growth is somewhat abrupt. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the pronoun usage in the second paragraph. Overall, the progression of ideas is logical, but the use of cohesive devices could be more flexible and natural.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express ideas clearly. There are attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'artificial intelligence', 'innovation', and 'labour market'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'archive better employment' (should be 'achieve') and 'winder choice' (should be 'wider'). The phrase 'higher educational jobs' in the conclusion is also imprecise. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and ensuring that word forms are used correctly in context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('there will be economical growth', 'many graduates are compete') and article usage ('the number of people continuing education'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some missing commas after introductory phrases. While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Increasing the variety of complex structures while focusing on accuracy in basic grammar would significantly improve the score.
