Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position that the trend is positive. The ideas are relevant, such as the link between education, skill acquisition, and economic success. However, the development is somewhat superficial. For example, the argument regarding the United States and sports is a bit tangential and lacks a strong connection to the broader trend of university course variety. While the main points are clear, the essay would benefit from more nuanced exploration of why this development is positive, perhaps by discussing societal benefits beyond just individual salaries or national sports records. The conclusion is a bit repetitive and does not fully synthesize the arguments presented.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. The progression of ideas is generally easy to follow. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive. Phrases like 'For instance' and 'Moreover' are used, but the transitions between sentences within paragraphs can feel abrupt. Referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the second paragraph where the connection between 'old times' and the current need for skills is slightly disjointed. Paragraphing is used appropriately, but the internal flow could be improved with more sophisticated linking words and better sentence-to-sentence cohesion.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. There are several spelling errors (e.g., 'incresaed', 'bussiness', 'feild', 'prominient', 'technolgy') and awkward word choices (e.g., 'manforce' instead of 'manual labor', 'most number of works' instead of 'most jobs'). While the student attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'billionaire' and 'Olympics', the overall range is limited. To reach a higher band, the student needs to focus on accurate spelling and more natural collocations, moving away from basic phrasing to more academic terminology.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede readability. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'the number of individuals... has growing', 'salaries... is currently depend'), missing articles, and incorrect verb tenses. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the capitalization of 'i'. While the meaning is generally clear, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. The student should focus on mastering subject-verb agreement and consistent tense usage.
