Student answer (Band 6.0)

nowadays, in so many nations the number of people continuing their education after school has rise, and the range of various courses available at universities and colleges has also increased. In my opinion, benefits provided by the education are greater than its drawbacks. Both positive as well as negative sides of their education after school is increased are explained in the following paragraphs.

To begin with, pursuing higher education enables students to gain advanced knowledge and practical skills, which improve their chances of finding well paid jobs. As the job market becomes more competitive, employers often prefer candidates with specialized qualifications. In addition, the availability of different courses allows students to study subjects that match their interests and abilities, leading to greater job satisfaction. For example, a student interested in technology can study artificial intelligence or data science instead of choosing a traditional degree.

Furthermore, a wider range of university courses benefits society by producing professional in various fields. Modern industries require experts in healthcare, engineering, environmental science, digital marketing, and many other areas. By offering specialized programmer, educational institutions can prepare graduates to solve real world problems and contribute to economic growth. For instance, during recent technological advancements, there has been a growing demand for software engineers and cybersecurity experts, and universities have introduced relevant courses to meet these needs.

In conclusion, I strongly believe that the increase in higher education and the expansion of university courses are positive development. They not only improve individuals career prospects but also crate a skilled workforce that supports the progress of society.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, clearly stating a position that the development is positive. The ideas are relevant and well-supported with examples, such as the mention of AI and data science in the job market. The argument is extended logically, discussing both individual career benefits and broader societal contributions. The response maintains a consistent focus on the topic throughout, and the conclusion effectively summarizes the main points. To reach a higher band, the student could provide more nuanced exploration of potential drawbacks, as the prompt asks for a balanced consideration before concluding.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'In addition', 'Furthermore', and 'In conclusion' are used effectively to guide the reader through the argument. Paragraphing is used appropriately, with each paragraph focusing on a central theme. While the flow is generally smooth, some transitions could be more sophisticated to avoid a slightly mechanical feel. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear and easy to follow throughout the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, including terms like 'specialized qualifications', 'competitive', and 'technological advancements'. There are some minor errors in word form, such as 'producing professional' (should be 'professionals') and 'specialized programmer' (should be 'programs'). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey meaning clearly, it lacks the more sophisticated or idiomatic collocations that would characterize a higher band score. The range is functional but could be expanded to include more precise academic terminology.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'has rise' (should be 'has risen'), 'is increased' (should be 'increasing'), and 'individuals career' (missing possessive apostrophe). Additionally, 'crate' is a spelling error for 'create'. While these errors are noticeable, they do not impede communication. To improve, the student should focus on subject-verb agreement and consistent verb tense usage, as well as ensuring that complex structures are formed accurately.
