Student answer (Band 5.0)

Nowadays, the number of people continuing their education after school has increased, and the range of courses available at universities and colleges has also increased. Obviously this is a positive development for a country, for our world as well.

Back to some years before when people were not get the enough opportunity to continue their study. The main reason was limited universities and colleges at that time. If there were institutions available, it had limited courses. So, that was the reason people could not find their desire courses and lost their wish to study and had to stop their study. Some of them who had the ability to go outside, they might continue their study.

For this reason students failed to serve their nation, work for the country. But this time, in many countries, the range of courses are increased along with the number of institutions. It's a big opportunity to continue study and serve to the nation.

There is nothing higher than education. Education or wisdom is the only one way to success. So, every people needs to be educated. When people get the opportunity to study on their desire courses, they can hold their concentration till the end. At the same time, when there are multiple courses are available, it will big opportunity to those who want to research, to pursue higher study.

So, the availability of more courses and increasing of educational institutions will give more positive impact to our society, to our nation and to our education system as well.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by identifying the trend as a positive development. However, the development of ideas is limited. While you mention that more courses allow students to serve the nation and pursue research, these points are repetitive and lack specific examples or deeper analysis. The essay relies on general statements rather than exploring the complexities of the issue, such as the potential for over-qualification or the economic implications of higher education expansion. To improve, ensure each paragraph introduces a distinct, well-supported argument rather than restating the same point in different ways.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. Transitions between ideas are often mechanical or repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'So' and 'For this reason' to start sentences. Referencing is sometimes unclear, particularly in the second paragraph where the connection between 'limited universities' and 'people could not find their desire courses' is slightly disjointed. While the overall structure is discernible, the lack of sophisticated cohesive devices makes the flow feel somewhat simplistic and occasionally disjointed.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You rely on basic terms like 'big opportunity', 'good', and 'nothing higher than education'. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'desire courses' (should be 'desired courses') and 'increasing of educational institutions' (should be 'the increase in educational institutions'). To achieve a higher score, focus on using more academic collocations and precise terminology related to the topic of higher education.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'people were not get the enough opportunity' (should be 'did not get enough opportunity') and 'the range of courses are increased' (should be 'the range of courses has increased'). Subject-verb agreement and article usage are inconsistent throughout the text. While the meaning is generally clear, the high frequency of errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band score.
