Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt by discussing both positive and negative aspects of increased higher education. However, the development of ideas is limited and repetitive. The argument that higher education leads to crime is underdeveloped and lacks logical support, making the position feel somewhat contradictory. Furthermore, the essay is 245 words long, failing to meet the 250-word minimum requirement. This under-length, combined with the lack of depth in the arguments, limits the score. To improve, you should provide more specific examples and ensure your reasoning is clearly explained rather than just stated.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. While some cohesive devices like 'moreover' and 'in contrast' are used, they are often placed awkwardly or used to connect ideas that do not flow naturally. The referencing is sometimes unclear, such as in the phrase 'that shows some draw backs', where the antecedent is ambiguous. The conclusion is very brief and does not effectively summarise the main points of the essay. Improving the use of transition signals and ensuring each paragraph has a clear topic sentence would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is generally basic and repetitive. You rely on simple phrases like 'increase in number' and 'do crimes' throughout the text. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'literacy rate in nation' (should be 'in a nation') and 'seek for the job' (should be 'seek jobs'). To reach a higher band, you need to use a wider range of vocabulary, including less common lexical items and more precise collocations related to education and economics. Avoid repeating the same words in close proximity.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the response, including subject-verb agreement ('people decides', 'it also show'), article usage ('in nation'), and sentence structure ('Government cannot able to create'). The essay relies mostly on simple sentence structures, and attempts at complex sentences are often marred by errors, which can occasionally impede the reader's understanding. You need to focus on basic accuracy, particularly with verb forms and sentence construction, before attempting more complex structures. Proofreading for common errors like missing articles and incorrect verb tenses is essential.
