Student answer (Band 6.0)
Education plays an important role in shaping the individuals and societies. In contemporary era, the number of people getting higher education after schools have increased significantly, along with the number of courses have also expanded. While this trend brings certain advantages, I believe it even brings some drawbacks, making it both a positive and negative development.
On the one hand, increase in the number of university students can be seen as a positive development because the literacy rate of the country will go up and the proportion of unemployment will automatically fall. Educated people can obey the rule and regulations of the country effectively and consequently, the crime rate will also decrease. For instance, students are able to study more courses and will be able to deal with real life issues easily. Students can perform various projects on social and environmental problems so as a result a great and prosperous society will be generated.
On the other hand, it also bring few shortcomings, by increasing the number of graduates there has been seen a deficiency of vocational workers. In daily life, people often need plumbers, carpenters, mechanics and electricians that are declining due to the increase in graduates. Moreover, because of substantial number of graduates there has been seen a huge competition in job marker as it requires extraordinary skills and knowledge to get a job. As a result, many of them left jobless and feel so stressed.
In conclusion, increasing the number of university students bring many advantages as crime free society and improved literacy rate. While it also causes unemployment and lack of professional workers. So, a balanced approach is ideal to cope with this matter.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, providing a clear position that the trend is both positive and negative. The ideas are relevant, such as the increase in literacy versus the shortage of vocational workers. However, some arguments are slightly under-developed. For instance, the claim that educated people will 'obey the rule and regulations' is a broad generalization that lacks specific evidence or logical depth. To reach a higher band, ensure that each point is fully explored with more nuanced reasoning rather than relying on sweeping statements. Overall, the response is well-structured and directly answers the question.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the positive and negative aspects. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'Moreover' are used to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there is occasional awkwardness in referencing, such as 'it also bring few shortcomings' where the pronoun 'it' does not clearly refer back to a specific noun. Improving the variety and natural flow of linking words would enhance the overall coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express ideas clearly. There are attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'literacy rate', 'vocational workers', and 'prosperous society'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'job marker' instead of 'job market' and 'it also bring few shortcomings' instead of 'it also brings a few shortcomings'. The range is sufficient for the task, but more precise and less repetitive vocabulary would be needed for a higher score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'the number of people... have increased' should be 'has increased') and article usage. Some sentences are slightly clunky, such as 'because of substantial number of graduates there has been seen a huge competition'. These errors do not impede communication, but they are persistent throughout the text. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic agreement and tense consistency.
