In many countries these days, the number of people continuing their education after school has increased, and the range of courses available at universities and colleges has also increased.
Do you think this is a positive or negative development?
You should use your own ideas, knowledge and experience and support your arguments with examples and relevant experience.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
In the modern world, the trend of pursuing education at the university level has been increased among the young generation. Moreover, universities are enlisting a range of programs for students to take admission. I believe that this development is beneficial for individuals as well as authorities to increase creativity and for getting job opportunities.
On the one hand, it is beneficial for students to take admission in the university to gain specialised knowledge of a specific field. One reason is that many organizations and government departments require a specific qualification for accessing job opportunities. By getting specialised knowledge, a person would be able to get expertise in that field and fulfil merit criteria for his desired job. For instance, learning at school provides general knowledge of every field. However, after gaining experience in a specific program would make it possible for them to get job opportunities in a specific organization and also earn money.
On the other hand, It is also advantageous for students that universities are now offering a range of courses. In the past, adults were often forced to take admission in a program providing them education about different ranges. However, it has become possible for students to take admission in a specialised area of their interest and develop their creativity. For instance, now universities are offering different programs related to technology including software engineering, web development, digital marketing and many more others. Therefore, it allows students to choose a specific field of study according to their interest instead of generally studying about computer science and IT.
In conclusion, the trend of attaining higher education and accessing a range of course is very beneficial for students. The former is important for fulfilling merit criteria in many organization and gaining expertise in a specific course. The latter is advantageous in terms students can choose their desired course and develop creativity in it.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, clearly stating that the trend is a positive development. The ideas are relevant, focusing on job market requirements and the benefits of specialized education. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat repetitive. For instance, the argument about 'specialized knowledge' is mentioned in both body paragraphs, and the explanation of how this leads to creativity could be more deeply explored. While the position is clear throughout, the supporting examples, such as the list of technology courses, are a bit generic. To reach a higher band, you should aim to provide more nuanced analysis of why this trend is positive, perhaps touching on broader societal or economic impacts beyond just individual job prospects.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two main arguments. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand,' 'On the other hand,' and 'In conclusion' are used effectively to guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and there is occasional awkwardness in referencing, such as 'The former' and 'The latter' in the conclusion, which feels a bit forced given the structure of the preceding sentences. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear, and the essay flows well, though it lacks the sophisticated, unobtrusive cohesion found in higher band responses.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey their meaning clearly. There is an attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'specialized knowledge,' 'merit criteria,' and 'digital marketing.' However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'take admission in a program' (should be 'enroll in a program') and 'providing them education about different ranges' (which is unclear). The range is sufficient to discuss the topic, but the lack of more sophisticated, precise, or idiomatic language limits the score. Improving your control over collocations will help elevate your lexical range.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include 'the trend... has been increased' (passive voice error), 'take admission in the university' (article usage), and 'many more others' (redundant). There are also issues with subject-verb agreement and preposition usage. While the errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. To improve, focus on mastering the use of articles, refining your use of passive versus active voice, and ensuring consistent verb tense usage throughout your paragraphs.
