Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt by identifying the trend as a positive development. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. While you mention career growth and employment, the arguments lack depth and specific evidence. For instance, the example of a software engineer is relevant but remains underdeveloped. To reach a higher band, you should expand on 'why' these courses are beneficial beyond just mentioning 'career growth' and 'salary'. The position is clear, but the supporting points are repetitive and lack the necessary complexity expected for a high-scoring academic essay.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the flow between ideas is often mechanical. You rely heavily on repetitive cohesive devices like 'therefore' and 'in my opinion'. Some transitions are abrupt, such as the jump from the software engineer example to the general statement about education being the key to success. The logical progression is present but lacks sophistication. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that connects back to the main argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. There are several instances of word-choice errors, such as 'decided to persuade their education' (likely meaning 'pursue') and 'built up their career' (a bit informal). You also repeat words like 'career growth', 'opportunities', and 'courses' frequently. To improve, try to use synonyms and more academic collocations. The range is limited, and the errors in word choice occasionally draw attention, though they do not prevent the reader from understanding your overall message.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('as number of interest... has increased', 'courses... had increased'), incorrect verb forms ('decided to persuade'), and punctuation errors (missing spaces after commas). While the meaning is generally clear, these persistent errors in basic grammar and sentence construction limit the score. To improve, focus on proofreading for subject-verb agreement and ensuring that verb tenses are used consistently throughout the essay.
