In many countries these days, the number of people continuing their education after school has increased, and the range of courses available at universities and colleges has also increased.

Do you think this is a positive or negative development?

You should use your own ideas, knowledge and experience and support your arguments with examples and relevant experience.

Student answer (Band 5.5)

It is more often seen that many citizens want to continue their education after school and also the courses in universities and colleges also grow up.

According to my perspective, it is a valuable development for contnuing the study after school. Many people has no income resources for living a better life. So, this can be beneficial for acquiring the higher education to get a stabel job and also many people has interest in learning the differnt things and chasing their dreams. For instance, after my school education, I want to continue my education because i have a big dream to come true. therefore, I take admission in university and know I am currently doing a best job which everyone want to aquire. I can buy anything I want to. Also, I am supporting y parents financially. Toda, range of courses also grow up. Which is beneficial for everyone to get admision in their own interest course. It is also helpful in gaining knowledge of inetersted courses they avail. For example, I had an interest in textile engineering and also get a job in my interested department and I am doing great at work also get a promotion.

It can also be negative, as more courses lead to a confusion in people for choosing a special course. They can be double minded. In addition, growing interest in getting education lead to lack of skills and talent.

In summation, i strongly prefer for continuing the education after school if we can afford as many of us cannot do the same thing. If we have a chance o get higher education, we should not miss it for learning the discpline, sense and knowledge.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The student addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both positive and negative aspects of continuing education after school, though the negative side is presented rather superficially at the end. A clear position is stated in the introduction and maintained throughout the essay. Main ideas are supported with personal examples, such as "after my school education, I want to continue my education because i have a big dream to come true." However, arguments tend to rely heavily on personal anecdotes rather than broader societal analysis, and some ideas are repetitive. The response meets the minimum length requirement comfortably. According to the band descriptors, this falls comfortably into Band 6, as all parts of the task are addressed, but some ideas are underdeveloped or lack broader extension.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a concluding summary. Paragraphing is used to separate distinct points, such as the positive developments in one paragraph and potential negative outcomes in the next. However, cohesive devices are sometimes mechanical or awkward, as seen in transitions like "Also, I am supporting y parents financially. Toda, range of courses also grow up." Referencing is occasionally unclear, and logical progression within paragraphs is disrupted by repetitive phrasing and abrupt shifts between ideas. This matches the Band 6 descriptor, where the essay is coherent overall, but cohesion is sometimes faulty or mechanical.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common words and phrases such as "financial support," "textile engineering," and "promotion." However, there are numerous lexical and spelling errors throughout the text, including "contnuing" instead of continuing, "stabel" instead of stable, "differnt" instead of different, "admision" instead of admission, and "inetersted" instead of interested. Word choices are sometimes awkward or unnatural, such as "income resources" or "knowing I am currently doing a best job." These errors do not completely impede communication, but they restrict the lexical score to Band 5.0, where noticeable errors cause some difficulty and show a limited, minimally adequate range.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as "Many people has no income resources for living a better life." However, grammatical accuracy is weak, with frequent errors in subject-verb agreement (e.g., "Many people has", "courses... grow up"), articles, and punctuation (e.g., lowercase "i", missing apostrophes in "y parents"). There are also awkward phrasing choices and tense inconsistencies that strain the reader at times. While communication is generally maintained, the frequency of basic grammatical errors prevents the essay from reaching Band 6. Therefore, a Band 5.0 is appropriate, reflecting a limited range of structures where attempts at complex sentences are frequently faulty and errors cause some difficulty.
