Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.5

The student attempts to address the task regarding whether the increase in post-school education and course variety is a positive or negative development, expressing a clear agreement. However, the response falls significantly short of the 250-word minimum, containing only 139 words. Consequently, the ideas are severely underdeveloped. While the writer touches on potential benefits like job opportunities and local accessibility, as well as drawbacks such as high tuition fees for middle-class families, these points lack adequate extension, examples, and holistic development. Due to the under-length penalty and insufficient development of arguments, this performance aligns closely with a Band 4.5 descriptor, rounded appropriately.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay displays some basic attempts at organisation, but overall progression is hindered by poor paragraphing and abrupt shifts in ideas. The text is broken into only two paragraphs, both of which contain multiple disparate thoughts that disrupt the logical flow. Cohesive devices are used minimally or inappropriately, such as the awkward transition 'Meanwhile institutes and coaching' and the fragmented sentence 'While, having a variety of courses.' Pronoun referencing and overall cohesion are frequently faulty, making it difficult for the reader to follow the train of thought smoothly. These characteristics place the response firmly in the Band 5 category.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.0

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, frequently impeded by major word-choice errors and incorrect collocations. Phrases like 'provides facilites education instead after schooling people loved to educate themselves' and 'possibilities job opportunities' demonstrate a limited lexical range and poor control over word formation and grammar. Although the student attempts some less common vocabulary such as 'renowate' and 'prefrence', these are marred by spelling mistakes and awkward usage. The lexical limitations frequently cause strain for the reader, fitting the Band 4 description well.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

The response features a very limited range of grammatical structures, and the majority of sentences contain severe structural errors. There are frequent issues with subject-verb agreement, tense usage, and punctuation, such as 'courses should be increase', 'those not able to go far for study they should have acces', and 'develope countries like Germany, China and so on . They have strong prefrence'. Attempts at complex sentences are consistently faulty, often resulting in fragmented thoughts or run-on structures that obscure the intended meaning. This level of grammatical control corresponds to a Band 4 score.
