Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The student addresses all parts of the task by clearly stating a position that the trend is a positive development. Ideas are relevant, suggesting benefits such as skilled human resources, economic growth, and the ability to stay in the home country. However, some ideas are repetitive and under-developed, relying on generalised statements like \'development of the country\' without deep elaboration. For instance, the discussion on China and the U.S.A. provides broad examples, but these could be expanded with more precise context to reach a higher band. Overall, the response meets the criteria for Band 6 by addressing the prompt with a clear position and relevant main points, though the support lacks the depth and extension characteristic of a Band 7.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with clear paragraphing, dividing the body into two main perspectives introduced by \'On the one hand\' and \'On the other hand\'. However, cohesion is frequently mechanical and repetitive, particularly with the over-use of transitional phrases like \'increment in number of\', \'due to the increment in number of students\', and \'Moreover\'. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and punctuation around cohesive devices and commas (e.g., spaces before commas as seen in \'countries , the number\') disrupts the smooth flow of the text. Because the organisation is generally logical but cohesive devices are often faulty and mechanical, this response firmly aligns with Band 6 descriptors.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common terms such as \'professionals\', \'resources\', and \'educational institutions\'. However, there are numerous lexical and spelling errors that detract from the writing, including \'persuing\' (pursuing), \'knowlege\', \'eengineers\', \'hels\', \'hel\', \'increasees\', and \'oportunities\'. Word choice is sometimes imprecise, such as \'literacy rate increases\' when referring to higher education enrolment. While communication is not impeded, the frequent spelling inaccuracies and lack of precision in collocation keep this response at a Band 5.5, just touching the lower boundary of Band 6.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing conditional structures like \'If the number of students increases...\' and relative clauses. However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, such as missing articles (\'in U.S.A\'), subject-verb agreement issues (\'students gets attracted\', \'its producing\'), and run-on sentences joined improperly with commas or conjunctions. Punctuation is also an issue, with persistent spacing errors before punctuation marks. While the meaning is generally clear despite the errors, the frequency of grammatical lapses prevents the response from achieving a higher score.
