Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response attempts to address the prompt regarding the positive or negative developments of increased further education, viewing it as a positive trend overall while introducing a negative angle regarding women leaving the medical workforce. However, the essay is only 209 words long, falling well short of the mandatory 250-word minimum, which heavily restricts task achievement and prevents full development of ideas. The position is somewhat unclear due to abrupt shifts, such as moving from general economic benefits to a specific, anecdotal discussion about female medical professionals. Examples are limited to a personal anecdote involving an aunt rather than broader, relevant societal trends. Consequently, the task is addressed only partially, warranting a band score of 5.0.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The text shows some basic organisation with attempts at paragraphing, separating the general economic view from the specific issue regarding female workers. However, logical progression is weak and ideas do not flow smoothly. Cohesive devices are either missing or misused, as seen in phrases like 'One of the finest drawback' and 'Thus those kind of decision'. Paragraphing is also problematic, as the second paragraph is a single, massive block of text containing multiple shifting ideas without clear internal transitions or signposting. Referencing is sometimes unclear, particularly with pronouns like 'They' referring back to singular subjects such as 'One of my aunt'. Because the overall progression is hampered by faulty cohesion and inadequate paragraph structure, it aligns best with band 5.0.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and repetitive, with basic lexical choices and frequent spelling or word-choice errors that occasionally impede communication. Examples of errors include 'persue' instead of 'pursue', 'alongwith', 'variuos', 'desire fields', and 'train professional' instead of 'trained professional'. There is an attempt to use less common vocabulary items, such as 'economic activities' and 'replacement', but these are often undermined by incorrect collocation and grammatical inaccuracies like 'finest drawback' instead of 'major drawback'. While the range is minimally adequate to convey some basic points, the density of lexical errors keeps the score at a band 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The essay displays a very limited range of grammatical structures, and attempts at complex sentences are frequently faulty. There are numerous grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('More student apply', 'One of my aunt... completed... They left'), tense inconsistencies, and incorrect pluralisation ('those kind of decision'). Punctuation is also poorly managed, with awkward spacing around punctuation marks and run-on structures. These frequent errors cause considerable difficulty for the reader and distort meaning in places, meaning the control of grammar does not exceed the band 5.0 descriptors.
