Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

The response addresses the prompt by stating that the increase in higher education is a positive development and attempts to support this with examples, such as benefits to third world countries and Pakistan. However, the response is cut off prematurely after only 152 words, failing to reach the minimum 250-word requirement. Consequently, the ideas are underdeveloped and the conclusion is incomplete. This results in a significant penalty under Task Achievement. To improve, the student must expand their arguments and ensure they write a fully developed essay that meets the word count.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay lacks proper paragraphing, presented instead as a single block of text. There are basic attempts at cohesion using phrases like 'For instance' and 'In conclusion', but the overall logical progression is hindered by the abrupt ending of the text and lack of distinct paragraphs. Referencing is sometimes unclear, for example, 'fomr that development alot'. While the writer's stance is visible from the beginning, the structural flaws prevent the response from achieving a higher band score.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The student attempts to use some topic-specific vocabulary such as 'higher education', 'foreign investors', and 'economy', but lexical resource is limited by frequent spelling and word-choice errors. Examples include 'interets' for interests, 'eduction' for education, 'fronm' for from, 'avery' for a very, and 'thr' for the. Additionally, the phrase 'increasing literate people' demonstrates awkward phrasing and incorrect collocation. The vocabulary used is adequate to convey the basic meaning, but errors are noticeable.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as conditional clauses ('if their children are getting higher education then there are more chances'). However, grammatical accuracy is weak with numerous punctuation and capitalization errors, such as missing capital letters at the beginning of sentences ('the third world countries', 'Pa kistan'). Run-on sentences are also present, combining multiple distinct clauses without appropriate punctuation. While meaning is generally clear despite these errors, they occur frequently.
