Student answer (Band 5.5)

Nowadays, the number of people studying further after their school surged over last years, and also the range of courses are available for secondary and higher secondary education. I think it is a positive development because world becomes a global village and everyone wants something different from the traditional courses so it allows people to choose their subjects that choose their aptitudes.

One important thing in this regard is that people are becoming aware and productive therse days. They know the importance of studying further after school as an educated person can find a bettter way to live his life instead of living life on the traditional ways. People choose to study further and also to become aware of happenings arround the world. The presesnt time is the most emerging and catastrophic era and whoever has knowledge holds power and awareness. For example if a student choose to study computer science in higher studies he learn many decision making abilityies with the logic to solve a problem effeciently. This thing will help him in spending his life a better way and also makes him superior in a way of knowledge than any other person who drops out after completing his school.

There are varieties of courses to study because of awareness in people. Everyone wants to be known and extraordinary. This thing is fulfilled by different courses available at college and universities people choose a field freely that suits their passion. Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by clearly stating a position that the increase in further education and course variety is a positive development. Ideas are presented to support this stance, such as career progression, personal development, and tailored learning paths. However, some arguments lack full extension and suffer from vague generalisations and somewhat confusing terminology, such as describing the present time as a 'catastrophic era'. Examples provided, like studying computer science or medical fields, are relevant but remain brief and under-developed. To reach a higher band, the student should flesh out arguments with more specific explanations and concrete real-world consequences rather than repeating broad statements about awareness and superiority. Overall, the task is addressed adequately, fulfilling the core requirements of a Band 6.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The essay displays a generally coherent overall arrangement with clear paragraphing, separating the introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. There is a logical progression from introducing the topic and stance, to discussing personal development and course variety, and finally concluding. However, cohesion is often faulty or mechanical. Basic cohesive devices are used, but referencing is occasionally unclear (e.g., 'This thing will help him...'). Furthermore, transitional phrases are sometimes awkward or missing, making the movement between ideas feel abrupt. Paragraph 3, for instance, starts abruptly and repeats ideas about course variety that were touched upon in the introduction. A more controlled use of logical connectors and clearer pronoun referencing would elevate the score.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully conveying the main ideas. The student attempts some less common vocabulary items and collocations, such as 'global village', 'aptitudes', and 'decision making abilities'. However, there are notable inaccuracies in word choice, spelling, and phrasing throughout the text, including 'therse days', 'arround', 'presesnt', 'effeciently', 'peron', and 'couse'. Phrases like 'most emerging and catastrophic era' demonstrate misuse of academic terms. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they frequently distract the reader and reveal limitations in precision. To improve, the student needs to focus on correct spelling, precise word choices, and more natural collocations suitable for academic writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some variety in grammatical structures with relative clauses and conditional-like examples. However, the text contains a high frequency of grammatical errors, particularly regarding subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'the range of courses are available', 'a student choose', 'he learn'), incorrect prepositions, and awkward phrasing. Punctuation is also problematic, with missing commas separating clauses and run-on sentences. While some sentences are error-free, the high density of grammatical inaccuracies means that control over complex structures remains weak. The errors cause occasional strain for the reader, placing the grammar firmly in the Band 5 category.
