Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5
The response is severely under-length, containing only 88 words compared to the required minimum of 250 words. Because of this major omission, the task cannot be fully addressed, and the ideas presented are left extremely underdeveloped. The student attempts to introduce a position by stating 'i do think that it is a positive development', but the response trails off mid-sentence and fails to provide the necessary body paragraphs, examples, or a conclusion required for a complete IELTS Task 2 essay. Consequently, the score for Task Achievement is heavily impacted by the strict length requirement and lack of development.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The text is too brief to demonstrate full paragraphing skills or a sustained logical progression. It starts with a standard introductory two-sentence paragraph, but the second paragraph breaks off abruptly in the middle of a thought. While basic transitional phrases such as 'To begin with' are attempted, the overall organizational structure is incomplete. Referencing and cohesive devices are minimal because the text stops prematurely, preventing any meaningful assessment of extended cohesion.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.0
The vocabulary used is very basic and repetitive, featuring noticeable word choice errors and spelling mistakes. For instance, the student writes 'amount of individual' instead of 'number of individuals', 'there studied' instead of 'their studies', and 'shools' instead of 'schools'. The phrase 'improved tremendously' is used repetitively in the introduction. The lexical range is limited and barely adequate to convey simple ideas before the text cuts off, resulting in frequent errors that cause some difficulty for the reader.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0
The response displays a very limited range of grammatical structures. There are persistent, basic grammatical errors throughout the short text, such as agreement errors ('the range of courses ... has also improved' vs 'the amount of individual who are continuing'), capitalization issues with 'i', and spelling errors. Complex sentence attempts are faulty, such as the incomplete conditional or dependent clause structure at the end of the text. Punctuation errors are also present, such as the space before the comma in 'To begin with ,'.
