Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The candidate addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing the increase in post-school education and course variety, while clearly stating their position that this is a positive development. Ideas are introduced, such as the rise of technology, Artificial Intelligence, and practical skills like cooking or fashion design. However, many of these ideas are under-developed and lack sufficient extension or detailed real-world examples. For instance, the paragraph regarding YouTube and mobile phones mentions various skills, but the connection to higher education is somewhat blurred, shifting into general vocational learning. Furthermore, there are awkward fragment sentences, such as 'Because we live in the era of technology and computer science.' To reach a higher band, the student needs to fully elaborate on their arguments with cohesive, relevant examples that directly tie the expansion of university courses to societal or individual benefits. Overall, the task is addressed, fitting the criteria for a Band 5.5 to 6.0, best represented by a 6.0 for covering all parts even if some are underdeveloped.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a clear overall arrangement and follows an introductory and body paragraph structure, indicating a stance ('In my opinion this is a positive development'). However, paragraphing and logical progression are frequently hindered by mechanical cohesive devices and sudden transitions. For example, the sentence 'In the forthcoming paragraphs i will illustrate positive deleopment' is overly formulaic. Cohesive devices are sometimes inaccurate or repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'Also' and 'And' to start sentences or link clauses. Furthermore, referencing is occasionally unclear, as seen in 'Thses course give people skill and talent', where pronouns and demonstratives do not smoothly connect back to the preceding ideas. Paragraphing is attempted, but the internal organization of paragraphs lacks smooth signposting, resulting in a somewhat disjointed reading experience. This aligns closely with Band 5.0 descriptors.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The student displays an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating terms related to modern society and education, such as 'marketing expert', 'revolution of the computer technology', 'Artificial intelligence', and 'career opportunities'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors throughout the text, including 'feild' instead of field, 'deleopment' instead of development, 'becuase', 'Artficial intellegence', 'numorous', 'stiching', and 'Thses'. These errors occasionally draw the reader's attention, though they do not completely impede communication. The student attempts less common lexical items, but control is inconsistent, and some collocations are awkward, such as 'mobile phone is in every hand'. This performance is characteristic of Band 5.5, rounded to 5.0 due to the frequency of basic spelling errors.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but grammatical accuracy is weak. There are frequent sentence structure errors, including sentence fragments ('Because we live in the era of technology and computer science.') and missing verbs ('Youtube also a best platform for education', 'There are numorous course available in every feild related.'). Subject-verb agreement and article usage are frequently problematic, for instance, 'The more range of courses available' and 'there is need of any special skill'. While the writer attempts complex structures, these attempts often result in ungrammatical formulations. Punctuation and capitalization are also inconsistent, with missing spaces after periods in places. Due to the high frequency of basic grammatical errors that cause some difficulty for the reader, this warrants a Band 5.0.
