Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
The response addresses the topic of higher education developments in a minimal fashion, touching upon studying abroad, career prospects, and university courses. However, the ideas are severely limited and under-developed due to the lack of clear progression and the word count falling significantly short of the 250-word minimum requirement. The text is written as a single, continuous run-on sentence without proper paragraphing or distinct main points, which prevents any comprehensive exploration of whether this trend is positive or negative. To improve, the writer needs to clearly state a position, separate ideas into distinct paragraphs, and fully expand upon arguments with relevant examples while meeting the required length.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5
The response lacks basic logical organisation and progression. It consists entirely of one extremely long, rambling sentence strung together by repetitive conjunctions such as 'and' and 'then'. There is a complete absence of paragraphing, and referencing is unclear, making it very difficult for the reader to follow the train of thought. To reach a higher level, the writer must divide the essay into logical paragraphs (introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion) and use appropriate cohesive devices rather than relying on endless coordinate clauses.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, with frequent errors in word form, spelling, and word choice that strain the reader's understanding. Examples include 'abroard' for abroad, 'feild' for field, 'libarary' for library, 'progam' for program, and 'avialiable' for available. The student attempts some less common concepts related to education, but the inaccurate word choices and spelling mistakes impede clear communication. To improve, the writer must expand their vocabulary range, learn correct word forms, and pay careful attention to spelling.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The grammatical range is extremely limited, characterized by a complete failure to use proper sentence boundaries or punctuation. The entire response is a single run-on structure lacking periods, capitalisation at sentence starts, and a mix of simple and complex forms. Frequent errors occur in verb tenses, subject-verb agreement, articles, and prepositions within grammatical patterns, such as 'every students want the focus' and 'student can not continue their study'. These frequent errors often distort the meaning and cause significant difficulty for the reader. To improve, the writer must learn fundamental sentence construction, use periods to separate distinct ideas, and control basic grammatical structures.
