Student answer (Band 6.0)

Development in education is advancing rapidly all over the world. In numerous countries, many people have started to continue their education after school, and the range of available courses at colleges and universities has also increased. I entirely believe that this is one of the great positive developments as it educates numerous people according to their interests. Moreover, in this way, people can get employments easily on the behalf of the courses they have studied.

One of the major benefits of education is personal growth. People have started critical thinking in their matters, instead of depending on others for advice. In addition, attributes including self-confidence and discipline are also being developed in educated people, and people have started to speak well in social as well as official gatherings too. For instance, a person who knows communication skills speaks far better in an official meeting than a person who do not know how to communicate. Thus, education not only educates people but also develops their character.

Another significant advantage is financial stability. Those people who get professional degrees can pursue their career well, and can build a well-giving lifestyle, while those who sit idle after school cannot even fulfil their families' needs in most cases. For example, a doctor who has learnt medicine earns well as compared to a mechanic who does labor at a workshop. Additionally, educated people know most of the life skills including daily living such as cooking, hygiene, laundry, etc and financial literacy such as budgeting, bill payment, and banking.

To sum up, education has countless advantages including character development, life skills and financial security, so one must continue studying after school and try to opt for courses according to their interest.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by presenting a clear position that the expansion of post-school education is a positive development. Relevant ideas are introduced, such as personal growth and financial stability, though some parts are more fully developed than others. For instance, the paragraph on financial stability provides a clear example contrasting a doctor with a mechanic, while the point regarding daily living skills such as cooking and hygiene is introduced briefly without sufficient extension. To reach a higher band, all main arguments need to be fully elaborated with robust, detailed examples and a more thorough exploration of the broader implications of this educational trend.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with a clear progression of ideas from introduction to conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct themes like personal growth and financial stability. Cohesive devices such as 'One of the major benefits', 'Another significant advantage', and 'To sum up' are employed to guide the reader through the text. However, some referencing and cohesive links are slightly mechanical. Moving towards a higher band requires smoother transitions between sentences and more flexible use of referencing to connect ideas seamlessly without relying on formulaic signposts.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully conveying the writer's meaning throughout the essay. There are attempts to use less common items and academic phrasing, such as 'financial stability', 'personal growth', and 'financial literacy'. However, some word choices and collocations feel unnatural or imprecise, such as 'well-giving lifestyle' or 'a mechanic who does labor'. There are also occasional awkward phrasings like 'get employments easily'. To achieve a higher band, the writer should incorporate a wider range of sophisticated vocabulary and idiomatic phrases with greater precision and natural stylistic control.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at subordination and relative clauses, such as 'a doctor who has learnt medicine earns well'. There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, including subject-verb agreement issues like 'a person who do not know', and minor preposition or article slips such as 'on the behalf of'. However, these errors do not impede communication. To reach a higher band, the essay would need a wider variety of complex grammatical structures used with greater accuracy, resulting in a higher frequency of error-free sentences.
