Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by taking a clear positive position on the increase in higher education and course availability. Relevant ideas are presented, such as gaining practical experience, personal maturity, independence, and career development. However, some ideas are more fully developed than others, which keeps the response at this level. For instance, the discussion on personal independence is supported with teamwork examples, but the section on vocational courses like web development and AI is somewhat repetitive and lacks specific elaboration on how these particular courses impact the broader development of students. Overall, the main arguments are clear and directly answer the prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with a clear stance stated in the introduction and a concluding summary at the end. Paragraphing is utilised to separate distinct ideas, such as independence in the second paragraph and career development in the third. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical and referencing is not always completely clear. For example, transitional phrases like 'To begin with the main reason' and 'To elaborate' feel a bit formulaic, and occasional awkward linking between sentences disrupts the smooth logical progression. Pronoun referencing is also slightly imprecise in places, such as when shifting between students and courses.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
An adequate range of vocabulary is used for the task, successfully communicating the writer's ideas about education and career growth. The student attempts to use less common vocabulary, such as 'plethora', 'advantageous', and 'vocational courses', though this is accompanied by some inaccuracy in word choice and collocations, such as 'are more rely on continue', 'get addmission', and 'well paid salary' instead of 'well-paying salary'. Additionally, there are minor spelling errors like 'backround' and 'choos'. Nevertheless, these lexical shortcomings and errors do not impede communication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting relative clauses and conditional-style structures. However, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation throughout the text that reflect a limited control over complex structures. Examples include structural errors such as 'people are more rely on continue', fragments like 'When they learn these courses at an early age, it will be very helpful', and missing articles or incorrect prepositions. Punctuation errors also occur, such as sentence fragments starting with 'When' followed immediately by another 'When'. While the meaning remains mostly understandable, the density of grammatical mistakes impacts the overall accuracy.
