Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The response addresses all parts of the task and maintains a clear, consistent position throughout by arguing that the trend is a positive development. Ideas are extended and supported, particularly in the discussion of economic benefits and specialized courses such as data science and renewable energy management. However, there is a tendency to over-generalize in parts, and some arguments, such as the mention of promoting general growth and independence, could be more fully developed to reach the highest standard. Examples are provided, such as students in Nepal studying IT and hospitality, which successfully ground the discussion in practical reality.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear logical progression throughout. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas, such as economic benefits, educational expansion, and potential drawbacks like degree inflation. Cohesive devices are employed to guide the reader, featuring phrases like 'Furthermore' and 'Admittedly'. However, the cohesion can occasionally feel slightly mechanical or repetitive in its transitioning, and referencing is not always completely smooth, which prevents the essay from achieving a fully seamless flow. The balance between paragraph topics reflects a logical structure that meets the expectations of this band level well.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
An adequate range of vocabulary is deployed for the task, allowing the writer to successfully discuss complex themes relating to higher education and the job market. There are successful attempts to use less common vocabulary, such as 'tertiary education', 'employability', and 'degree inflation'. However, some word-choice and spelling errors are present, including typos like 'sciene' instead of 'science', 'employbility' instead of 'employability', 'sich' instead of 'such', and 'expension' instead of 'expansion'. While these errors do not impede communication, they demonstrate minor inaccuracies that keep the score at this level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The writing demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing structures such as conditional and concessive clauses effectively. There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, such as article misuse in 'for the both individuals', preposition errors in 'finds job', and missing punctuation around clauses, but these errors rarely impede communication. The presence of these recurrent errors, alongside some awkward phrasing, indicates that control over more complex grammatical patterns is still developing, which aligns with the assigned band descriptor.
