Student answer (Band 6.0)
Education is the essential element in the development of a country. In recent times, it is observed that in many countries, influx of students have increased in the higher education and universities are also offering variety of courses to their students.
To begin with, the increased number of students in the colleges and universities. This means that people have realised the power of education and they are contributing in the growth of country by opting higher education for them. Unlike old time, when people just focus on getting basic education and working in primary sectors, now they are shifting their focus to tertiary industries, generating more income. Forexample, all of my cousins are graduated from prestigious universities of Pakitan and working as doctors and engineers rather than our father and uncles, who spent their life working as factory workers for minimal wages.
Moreover, the increase in number of courses offered by universities and colleges is another good initiative for attracting more students. Earlier people discontinue higher education due to limited majors like medicine, IT professionals and so on whereas now students can study anything according to their prefrences and can excel in their lifes. Lots of courses have been introduced in art and business fields. With growing world, courses like AI has been incooperated in our educational system which is utmost important for surviving in this competitive world.
In my opinion, these are positive and progressive developments in our educational system, which are needed from a long time. A country can never progress without educated people.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by clearly presenting a position that the increase in higher education and course variety is a positive development. Relevant ideas are presented, such as the shift from primary to tertiary industries and the introduction of modern subjects like artificial intelligence, fulfilling the requirements for this level. However, some ideas are under-developed or lack full extension. For instance, the personal anecdote about family members working as doctors and engineers is mentioned, but its connection to broader economic progress is only partially explained. Similarly, the mention of new courses like IT and AI could be elaborated with more specific examples of how they impact society. To move to a higher level, the writer needs to fully develop all main points with deeper explanations and more comprehensive supporting evidence.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with a clear central topic maintained throughout. The response is divided into logical paragraphs, each with a discernible focus, starting with an introduction, followed by body paragraphs discussing the rise in student numbers and course variety, and concluding with a clear personal stance. Cohesive devices are employed, such as 'To begin with', 'Moreover', and 'In my opinion', which help guide the reader through the text. Nevertheless, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or slightly faulty, and referencing is not always completely clear. For example, the sentence fragment 'To begin with, the increased number of students in the colleges and universities' lacks a main verb, disrupting the logical flow. To achieve a higher band, the writer should ensure smoother transitions between sentences and more seamless, less formulaic use of cohesive devices.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The writer demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common lexical items such as 'influx', 'tertiary industries', and 'incooperated' (incorporated). However, there are noticeable word choice, word form, and spelling errors throughout the text that reflect this level. Examples include 'opt higher education for them' instead of 'opt for higher education', 'discontinue' used instead of 'discontinued' for past events, 'prefrences' (preferences), 'lifes' (lives), and 'utmost important'. There are also minor collocation issues, such as 'needed from a long time'. These inaccuracies do not severely impede communication, but they prevent the writing from achieving a higher score. To improve, the writer should focus on expanding lexical precision, checking word forms, and carefully proofreading for spelling mistakes.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response exhibits a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating an attempt at varied grammatical structures. For instance, the writer uses complex clauses like 'which is utmost important for surviving in this competitive world'. However, there are some errors in grammar and punctuation, including missing articles ('an essential element', 'the growth of the country'), preposition errors ('graduated from prestigious universities of Pakistan'), and incomplete sentence structures as seen in the second paragraph. Despite these errors, they rarely impede communication. To reach a higher standard, the writer needs to produce a greater frequency of error-free sentences and improve control over article usage, prepositions within grammatical patterns, and complex sentence construction.
