Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses the main prompt by discussing whether the increase in post-school education and course variety is positive or negative, expressing a clear position from the beginning. However, the development of ideas remains limited and under-developed. For instance, the discussion on the literacy rate of Islamabad mentions a specific statistic (89%), but the link between university availability and this figure is not fully explored or supported with clear reasoning. Similarly, the counterargument concerning personal health and sports achievements in China lacks logical integration with the topic of academic course expansion. To reach a higher level, the writer needs to present fully extended ideas with more relevant and coherent supporting examples rather than relying on generalized assertions.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The essay displays some overall organization with a recognizable introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. However, there is a lack of clear overall progression, and the logical flow between sentences is frequently disrupted. Cohesive devices are sometimes inadequate, inaccurate, or repetitive, such as the frequent transitions like 'Firstly,' 'Secondly,' and 'However,' which are used mechanically without seamless integration. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal paragraph cohesion suffers because ideas shift abruptly—for example, moving from literacy statistics directly to job opportunities without a smooth transitional sentence. Referencing is also occasionally unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the exact line of argument. To improve, the writer should focus on creating a smoother progression of ideas and using a wider, more natural variety of cohesive links.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate to convey basic ideas about education and career opportunities. The response contains noticeable errors in word choice, word form, and spelling that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. Examples include spelling mistakes like 'Nowadys,' 'univeristies,' 'inaguration,' 'appraoch,' 'explicat,' 'carpentar,' 'electrican,' and 'diiferent.' There are also issues with word formation and collocation, such as 'enrolled in more courses would be aganist their personal interest' instead of enrolling, and 'athlete players' instead of athletic players. The range of vocabulary is restricted to simple and repetitive terms, and attempts to use less common lexical items often result in inaccuracy. To progress, the student must expand their vocabulary range, pay closer attention to word forms, and carefully proofread their work to eliminate basic spelling errors.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writing exhibits a limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on simple sentences alongside attempts at complex forms that are frequently faulty. There are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation that can cause difficulty for the reader throughout the text. Noticeable issues include subject-verb agreement problems ('educational institutions... are increased', 'citizens are indulged... they would contribute in the society growth'), article omissions ('in city of pakistan'), and incorrect prepositional usage ('in term of employment', 'towards their health is a paramount importance'). Furthermore, sentence boundaries and punctuation are sometimes mishandled, leading to run-on structures or fragments. To achieve higher bands, the writer must demonstrate better control over complex sentence patterns, improve agreement and article usage, and reduce the frequency of basic grammatical errors.
