Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

The response addresses the prompt by discussing the advantages and disadvantages of continuing education and increased course availability, fulfilling the core requirements of the task. However, the position is not always clearly maintained, and the ideas are often limited and under-developed. For instance, the second paragraph mentions 'wide range of knowladge' and the ability to frequently ask questions, but these points are supported with vague generalisations rather than fully articulated examples. Similarly, the drawbacks discussed in the third paragraph, such as high fees and transportation challenges, remain brief and lack detailed explanation. To reach a higher level, the writer needs to extend and support all main ideas with specific, relevant examples and maintain a fully developed, coherent perspective throughout.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay demonstrates an overall logical arrangement with a clear introduction and conclusion, and the writing is divided into distinct paragraphs. Cohesive devices are used to structure the text, such as 'One of the key benefits', 'Additionally', and 'However'. However, some of these cohesive links feel somewhat mechanical or are awkwardly placed, and referencing is not always completely clear. For example, the progression within paragraphs sometimes feels repetitive, and phrases like 'Thus, it is essential to implament strategies' act as a generic wrapper rather than connecting specific ideas smoothly. To improve further, the writer should ensure that cohesive devices connect ideas more naturally and that the logical progression between sentences is consistently strong throughout.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey basic points about education. There are noticeable errors in word choice, word form, and spelling that occasionally cause some difficulty for the reader, such as 'verious' for various, 'effection' for affecting, 'knowladge' for knowledge, 'physicaly' for physically, and 'implament' for implement. The writer attempts some less common phrasing like 'educational institution' and 'transportation challenges', but inaccurate collocations and persistent spelling mistakes constrain the lexical score. To move up to a higher band, the writer must expand their vocabulary range, use less common items with greater precision, and eliminate basic spelling and word-form errors.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response relies on a limited range of structures and attempts at complex sentences are frequently faulty. There are frequent grammatical errors that can cause difficulty for the reader, including missing articles, faulty prepositional phrases, and subject-verb agreement issues, such as 'increased in different kind of courses' and 'the local institution arre high fee'. Additionally, punctuation and sentence boundary errors are present, as seen in redundant commas like 'Therefore,'. While simple sentences are generally manageable, the control over complex clauses and grammatical patterns needs significant strengthening. To achieve a higher band, the writer must produce more error-free sentences and demonstrate reliable control over a wider variety of complex grammatical structures.
