Overall5.5

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the task only partially, presenting a clear position that the trend is a positive development, but the ideas remain limited and under-developed. For instance, the discussion regarding medical studies and the brother's job example are simplistic and lack depth. Furthermore, the length requirement has not been met, as the response contains only 227 words, falling short of the 250-word minimum. The introductory sentences also unnecessarily copy language directly from the prompt. To reach a higher level, the writer needs to extend and support all arguments more thoroughly with well-developed explanations and ensure the full word count is achieved.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay displays some overall organization with clear paragraph breaks, and the writer attempts to sequence ideas using basic cohesive devices such as 'First of all', 'Secondly', and 'In conclusion'. However, progression is sometimes lacking, and referencing can be unclear, such as in the final paragraph where referencing is overly abrupt. Cohesive devices are at times repetitive or somewhat mechanical. To improve and achieve a higher band, the writer must ensure a clearer overall logical progression between sentences and paragraphs, utilizing a wider and more flexible range of cohesive links without relying on repetitive formulas.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey basic meaning. There is an attempt to use some less common vocabulary, such as 'ellaborates' and 'crateria', but these contain noticeable spelling and word-form errors. Other expressions like 'take further studies again' demonstrate a restricted lexical range and awkward word choice. These errors cause some difficulty for the reader. To progress, the student needs to expand their vocabulary range, improve control over word forms, and use more precise, natural collocations appropriate for academic writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writing exhibits a limited range of sentence structures, and attempts at more complex sentences are often faulty, such as the run-on sentence in the introduction and the awkward phrasing in 'government can assumes to boost this system more'. There are frequent errors in verb forms, tenses, subject-verb agreement, and articles throughout the text, including 'doctors done further studies' and 'government give free education'. These frequent grammatical errors can cause some difficulty for the reader. To reach a higher standard, the writer must incorporate a wider variety of complex structures with greater accuracy and minimize basic grammatical mistakes.
