In many countries these days, the number of people continuing their education after school has increased, and the range of courses available at universities and colleges has also increased.

You should use your own ideas, knowledge and experience and support your arguments with examples and relevant experience.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

Your position is clear: you consider the growth in further education and course choice positive. You support this with personal experience, explaining that you continued studying despite your parents’ opposition, and you mention education’s role in confidence and future success. These points are relevant, but the response only partly develops the task. It gives little explanation of how a wider range of university courses benefits people or society, and several claims—such as that graduates “will be successful in future”—are asserted rather than supported with a specific example. The discussion of schools being built in rural areas also shifts away from the question about post-school education. Develop two or three directly relevant reasons and explain each one more fully.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5

The response maintains a generally positive viewpoint, and phrases such as “because” and “That’s why” show attempts to connect reasons and conclusions. However, ideas are presented as one continuous block, with no paragraphing to distinguish the position, supporting reasons, and conclusion. Progression is difficult to follow: the discussion moves from past access to education, to personal experience, course choice, and then schools in rural areas. Repeated references to education being important and to universities increasing their courses do not create a clear sequence. Use separate paragraphs for your main points, begin each with a clear topic sentence, and use linking expressions to show how each example supports your argument.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

You use some relevant vocabulary, including “education,” “universities and colleges,” “confidence,” and “successful,” so the main topic is usually understandable. However, the range is limited and several words or phrases are repeated, particularly “education,” “positive,” and “successful.” Frequent spelling errors and inaccurate word choices—such as “dicipline,” “languge,” “pressurerised,” and “comfidence”—make parts of the response harder to read. Some expressions are also unnatural, for example “increase the people confidence” and “become a successful men and women.” Build a more accurate range for discussing access, course choice, skills, and career prospects, and check spelling and collocations carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

You attempt to connect ideas in longer sentences, for example when explaining that education develops confidence and when describing your parents’ opposition. However, sentence structures are limited, and attempts at complex sentences are often faulty. Errors in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries occur frequently: “people are not allowed to their children,” “the universities and colleges has,” and “I am currently study” are examples. Punctuation and capitalisation are also inconsistent, with several sentences joined together or beginning without a capital letter. These problems sometimes make relationships between ideas unclear. Practise accurate simple sentences first, then add subordinate clauses, checking subject–verb agreement and verb forms in each sentence.
