Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You clearly take a positive position, and your personal example from ship planning gives the response a relevant connection to the topic. You explain that further study can build knowledge and help people contribute at work, including assisting colleagues with stowage planning and vessel models. However, the task is addressed only partially: most of the response develops one personal example, while the wider increase in course choices and its effects on other people are not explored. The argument is also difficult to follow because several points are compressed into one long sentence. The response is 230 words, so it does not meet the 250-word minimum. Develop a second supporting reason and explain it with a specific example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

There is a recognisable overall direction: you state that the development is positive and then give a work-related example to support that view. This helps the reader identify your main position. However, ideas are not arranged into clear stages or paragraphs, and nearly the entire response is one sentence. As a result, the personal background, workplace example, and concluding recommendation run together rather than forming a logical progression. Linking expressions such as “and,” “as,” and “because” are repeated, and the relationships between some points are unclear. Separate the response into an introduction, focused body paragraphs, and a conclusion; use clear transitions to show when you are giving a reason, an example, or a result.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some topic-relevant vocabulary, including “education,” “courses,” “knowledge,” “stowage planning,” and “vessel models.” The workplace details make your example specific rather than entirely general. There is also some attempt to express ideas beyond basic statements, such as describing how learning can help someone “excel.” However, vocabulary is often repetitive, particularly “different,” “help,” and “knowledge,” and some choices or collocations are imprecise, such as “the power of education” and “a great place in any firm.” Spelling errors, including “thier,” “experiance,” and “definately,” also reduce accuracy. Build a wider range of precise academic phrases and check spelling carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response attempts to connect ideas using subordinate clauses and reasons, for example “because it teaches you a lot” and “if a person is keen of learning different subjects.” This shows an effort to use more than short, simple sentences. However, the range is limited in practice because the response is largely one extended sentence, and frequent errors make relationships between ideas difficult to track. Examples include “a lot of people are understanding,” “education and the persons knowledge … is the key,” and “the person should go ahead.” Sentence boundaries and punctuation are also missing, while agreement and possessive forms are inconsistent. Practise writing shorter, complete sentences first, then combine selected ideas with accurate clauses and check subject–verb agreement.
