IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In many countries these days, the number of people continuing their education after school has increased, and the range of courses available at universities and colleges has also increased.
Do you think this is a positive or negative development?
You should use your own ideas, knowledge and experience and support your arguments with examples and relevant experience.
Student answer (Band 5.5)
According to my opanion, it is a positive approach to have numbers of course available at university. In past when a student completed his school education there are very fiewer courses available to him at that time. He has no option of chosing his course other than available limited courses. In this case student donot get a chance to show his abblities in the fields of his interest. In earlier time we have very fiew programes at university, including MBBS,Engineering in few fields and atrs subjects. It is good fore students who are interrested but what about strudents, who are intetrested in other fields.Because many students want to join the fields of their own interest. It not only effect students individually but the country also. Like when we have no graduates of rellevent field then a country has to import graduates from other country in this way their exist a gap in job opportunities. With the development in the field of education universities are now offering too many programes to students to study in the fields of their own iunterest.
In this way stiudents get education with full uinterset and at the end we will et more professional graduates in our country. In Pakistan during 19s universities are offiring very few field for students to study after F.S.C. As a result when technology is introduced in pakistan they feel difficulty in its use. But now when pakistani universities are offiring many new and uptodated course that help the students and country alot.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
Your position is clear: you consider the wider choice of university courses a positive development. You give relevant reasons, including allowing students to study areas that match their interests and helping the country develop graduates in needed fields. The Pakistan example also supports your point about newer courses helping students adapt to technology. However, the response addresses the issue only partially because it focuses mainly on course choice and gives little consideration to the broader increase in people continuing education after school. Several claims, such as the link between course availability and a “gap in job opportunities,” are asserted rather than explained. Develop each reason with a clearer cause-and-effect explanation and a specific example to make the argument more complete and convincing.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
There is some organisation: you begin by stating your view, then explain the limitations of earlier course choices, and finish with an example from Pakistan. The ideas are generally related to the topic, and phrases such as “In this way” help signal connections. However, the response has no clear paragraph breaks, so the shift from general arguments to the Pakistan example is difficult to follow. Some links are repetitive or unclear, including “In this case,” “In this way,” and “But now,” while the relationship between importing graduates and a “gap in job opportunities” is not made explicit. Group the introduction, supporting reasons, and example into separate paragraphs, and use more precise transitions and references to show how each point develops the previous one.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some topic-related vocabulary, including “graduates,” “universities,” “technology,” and “fields of their own interest,” which helps communicate the main argument. However, the range is limited and several words or phrases are repeated, particularly “fields,” “students,” and “courses.” There are also frequent spelling and word-choice problems, such as “opanion,” “abblities,” “programes,” and “uptodated,” which can make the reader pause. Some expressions are not natural in this context, for example “numbers of course available” and “full uinterset.” Build a more accurate range of academic collocations and check spelling carefully; this will make your ideas clearer and more precise.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and longer sentences, including a conditional idea in “when we have no graduates … then a country has to import graduates.” However, the range is limited, and complex sentences are often difficult to control. Errors in verb forms and agreement appear in “when a student completed his school education there are” and “It not only effect students,” while missing or incorrect articles and plurals occur in “at university” and “few field.” Sentence boundaries and punctuation also need attention: several ideas run together, and spaces are missing after full stops. Practise building accurate sentences with clear subjects and verbs, then combine them using clauses such as “because” and “which” while checking agreement, tense, and punctuation.
