Student answer (Band 6.0)

Education is the backbone of a nation. It's not possible to succeed in life and as a nation without pursuing education. It's very unfortunate that some countries don't have the opportunity to serve its people with proper education although this is one of the basic human rights. But nowadays the number of schools and range of courses are increasing which has given the light of hope to the mass people who want to continue their studies.

Not many years ago, there were not enough institues to continue study in Bangladesh. People from far villages had to come to schools which required immense motivation to carry on. It was even harder for female students. Parents mostly found it useless to send their children to farthest schools rather they thought it would help them financially if the boys would work outside on the field and girls at home. Well, they didn't have enough knowledge regarding the importance of education. As a result, most of the students used to drop out in the middle of the year.

With the increase in the number of schools, there are at least one school in every village now, sometimes even more. The parents now are more concious about their childrens' future and they know education is the only way to the success. For city or town's case, there are many schools in a single area which gives the students a chance to compete with each other. The authorities feel an urge to come out as the best as well. This accelerates the quality of an institution.

For higher studies, there are now various courses a student can pursue. This availability of courses has created an increase in the number of seats in the colleges and universities. As a result, no student is left out from education anymore because of lack of opportunities.

Moreover, with the increasing number of population it's important to increase the number of educational institutions to guarantee the previlege of education. This is one of the best positive sides to improve as a nation I feel.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear: you regard the growth in further education and course choice as positive, and you support this with examples about access in Bangladesh, including rural students and girls. The discussion of increased local provision and competition between institutions is relevant. However, the response focuses mainly on schools and general access to education, while the prompt specifically concerns people continuing education after school and the expanding range of university and college courses. The claim that “no student is left out” is also too absolute and is not supported with evidence. Develop the higher-education point more fully—for example, explain how varied courses meet different career interests—and qualify broad claims to make the argument more convincing.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall progression: it introduces the positive view, describes earlier barriers, explains changes in access, and ends with a broader conclusion. Paragraphing helps distinguish these stages, and links such as “As a result” and “Moreover” make relationships between ideas visible. This already gives the essay a coherent structure. To make the progression more consistently smooth, keep each paragraph tightly focused on the question: the discussion of village schools takes up substantial space before the essay turns to college and university courses. Some transitions, such as “For city or town’s case,” sound awkward and do not clearly connect the point to the preceding one. Use more precise topic sentences and clearer references to avoid abrupt shifts.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a range of relevant vocabulary, including “immense motivation,” “drop out,” “compete,” and “availability of courses,” which helps communicate the main ideas. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “the backbone of a nation.” However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, including “serve its people with proper education,” “given the light of hope,” and “the best positive sides.” Spelling errors such as “institues,” “concious,” and “previlege” also reduce accuracy. Aim for precise, natural academic expressions and check spelling carefully; for example, describe institutions as “providing access to education” and say that course choice “offers more opportunities.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including clauses with “although,” “which,” and “because,” and the main message remains understandable. Some sentences are controlled, such as “As a result, most of the students used to drop out in the middle of the year.” However, there are some recurring errors in agreement, articles, plurals, and sentence construction. For example, “there are at least one school” should use a singular verb, while “the number of population” needs a different grammatical construction. In “if the boys would work,” the conditional form is also awkward. Review subject–verb agreement and article use, and revise long sentences so that their clauses connect accurately. Greater consistency would make your varied sentence forms more effective.
